    I enjoy your videos Jeff. One of the best parts of the enjoyment of traditional archery is maintaining and crafting your own equipment from building or simply re-fletching arrows to making your own strings etc. I have my my Dad’s old Blitzenberger with a right and left wing clamps, (although I have always stuck with the left wing).

    Pro tip - if you noc-tune your bare shafts . You then can fletch them exactly the same. All oriented the same and tuned the same. Takes more time but results are awesome. Good video

    How do you decide to go with 3 or 4 fletch, and how do you decide on how much offset? Do you need any if you’re helical? I jumped in over my head and started my first try with 4x 3” with what I think was 4 degrees slant on top of the rw right helix. Box doesn’t actually explain the offset settings. Kind of a spicy mess but they fly. And it’s fun as can be.

    I’d Like ti see how you actually set jig up for straight, offset and helical I have a bitzenburger and don’t like how it’s just a random guess on the degree of offset etc.

    Hi, Jeff question for you? is your clamp straight! and your set the off set? Or is your jig left or right? I'm getting ready to order one and I'm deciding what to buy i had a benznburger before left and making 500 spine shafts it was a lot of off set with the left jig.

    I have a question if you have bare shaft tune your Arrow to your bow does the sticker stiffened the shaft enough to make a difference in arrow flight and if so what do you do to compensate for it.

  • @mikeneuburger3989

    You can weigh your desired fletching on a grain scale and then use an equivalent weight of tape on the back end of the arrow. Or just go slow and tune them a touch weak and the fletching will stiffen up the arrow.

    Hey Jeff, is the Bohning jig's helical "set" or is it adjustable? I have a Bitz I bought back in the late 80s or early 90s. And while I too have my "reference marks" on it for different shafts, it's seemingly infinitely adjustable capabilities can be super frustrating. When I got the Bitz, I was shooting 5" vanes out of a compound. I switched to the small Blazers MANY years later. And now that I put away the training wheels and am stickbow-only, I have switched to feathers. Man...what a challenge to consistently fletch feathers with the Bitz (at least for me). I've thought about getting a Bohning jig as it appears to be much more simple. Your thoughts? Thanks brother!

  • @instinctiveaddictionarcher8998

    @instinctiveaddictionarcher8998

    Жыл бұрын

    Hey Matt, yes they are much simpler jigs and all you do is adjust the top and bottom to give them some helical , they have little indicator marks to go by, I run mine on somewhere around a five degree which is like the third indicator and mark it with a sharpie, I’m able to do 5/16 shafts and small diameter as well with the same setting but they’re great for the money 👍🏻

    I was gonna order some feathers but they said left and right. Which do I need? My compound has a left twist. Do i need to see my bare bow too?

  • @instinctiveaddictionarcher8998

    @instinctiveaddictionarcher8998

    5 ай бұрын

    Either one works fine it’s just that most strings for traditional bows are twisted clockwise which makes a left helical come off the string cleaner and they leave the shelf better so that’s why most guys run left wing feathers on traditional arrows 👍🏻

    Probably the opposite actually might need a thinner strike plate to reduce paradox a little it’s worth trying or cut them a little if possible 👍🏻

    How much offset do I need on a helical fletching, or does it matter ? And should I consider using wraps?

  • @instinctiveaddictionarcher8998

    They all work fine I just like four inch because they fly broadheads great with less noise and drag than 5”, the 3” aren’t quite enough unless the arrow is tuned perfectly 👍🏻

    I'm not going to admit how many times I've watched this video. Trust me, it's a bunch. I have the jig and crash coursed myself through fletching my first arrow. The base of my jig was as straight as a crescent moon out of the box, but I managed to fix it with a heat gun, a monkey wrench, and cold water to set it. I have the left helical clamp and left wing feathers. Should I also add any offset degrees as well or is it overkill ? Thanks.

    Every time I fletch an arrow using the Bohning jig I get uneven spacing between the feathers and can't for the life of me figure out why. The whole point of a jig is to ensure consistency. The only thing I can think of is that I'm using small diameter arrows (Easton Axis) which might be less forgiving. Any suggestions on improving consistency in feather spacing? Thank you.

  • @instinctiveaddictionarcher8998

    @instinctiveaddictionarcher8998

    Hmm, that’s strange I’ve honestly never had any issues as far as spacing goes, I always start out with the little notch lined up on the turn knob and adjust the helical degree the same on front and back somewhere near the middle which puts just enough but not so much that a smaller diameter shaft becomes difficult and they do have a lot less surface to work with lol thanks so much!

    @@instinctiveaddictionarcher8998 I just wanted to follow up and say that I discovered why I was getting inconsistent results with this jig. The jig comes in an 'index feather up' configuration, which strikes as really weird since I have only ever seen arrows with the index feather pointing away from the riser, not up. There are instructions to change the jig to an 'index feather out' position, which I incorrectly followed. It is possible to put this jig together in a configuration where it will 'click' at each position, but the spacings are not even. Once I carefully reassembled it correctly and followed this tutorial I got consistent results.
