    Only where the shoe creases and bends when you step, so it is best for customisations to be on the back part of the shoe to avoid this, or to use leather paint only 👌

    Hi ! I need an advice in posca customs on leather 🙏 I’ve been customizing quite a few leather pieces lately (but mainly adidas - Stan Smith shoes). I’ve only used Angelus paint until last week : I’ve tried poscas. The issue was that when I wanted to coat the work with the matte finisher, my drawings made with the posca started to smudge due to the watery finisher. Though your drawings seem to have no problem with your finisher. Did you have the same problem before and if you do, could you tell me how to fix it ? Thanks a lot ! Side note : I do prep the leather with acetone. Both my acetone and my finisher are from the angelus brand, and the finisher needs to be mixed with water at a 1/1 ratio before applying it onto the shoe. Your custom looks dope, these two colors are actually my favorite lol

  • @NicMac

    @NicMac

    3 жыл бұрын

    My tip is to apply a very light coating of finisher by dabbing it on gently with the paintbrush. Don’t “brush it on” dab it on just enough so that it’s sits over your painted layer, when it’s dry, i then brushed on a normal amount to coat it properly and it didn’t smudge as the dabbing motion had sealed everything in place. 👌👌

  • @sacha-2427

    @sacha-2427

    First, thanks for your quick reply ! My solution was also to slightly dab a few layers of finisher on the posca painted surface first. I eventually managed to cover the whole shoe without ruining the design too much 😇 PS : I checked your website and your Instagram and your work there is also amazing, I love the bright colors you use in your artworks ! @@NicMac

  • @NicMac

    @NicMac

    Yes it can as long as it has acetone in it. You might have to rub it a bit harder if it’s a bit of a weaker mix of the chemical but it should do the trick. In my other custom trainer video “gold soles” there’s a before and after shot of what to look for when you are using the acetone, that might help too 👌

  • @NicMac

    They are pretty long lasting, especially if you are only using them for trainers. If I did this sort of design only (as in, not painting the full trainer in one colour) I think I could use those same pens for at least 7 pairs of trainers, maybe more. Don't quote me on that, but they do last alot!

    How durable are the poscas on the shoe? I want to use it for linework

  • @NicMac

    Very durable, and even more so if you can get your hands on a leather varnish to coat over the top (I didn't in this video) Also something to add that I wouldn't recommend, is putting the line work where the shoe/trainer bends, that is the only part of my trainers where it is wearing down. :) hope this helps! thanks for watching!

    Does posca pen paint last ?? Like waterproof or so ?

  • @NicMac

    @NicMac

    4 жыл бұрын

    It does, if you use a leather varnish. Which makes it waterproof and have UV protection. The varnish I used does also do this, but I don't think it is as DURABLE as proper leather varnish.

  • @NicMac

    @NicMac

    This was just a simple fabric varnish by liquitex. It does keep the paint on very well but not so much where the leather creases. I would recommend Angelus Matt varnish which I have used since and found to be better.

    hi i want to do this on my stan smiths, why did you use acetone and matte ?

  • @NicMac

    @NicMac

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hey Justin, So, Acetone helps remove the protective layer they put on the leather....it preps the surface allowing your paint to adhere to the fabric better. And Matte varnish, because it keeps the texture looking as it should, rather than being too shiny. I also think it looks better - but that's just my opinion. Although....I would say that a better varnish to use is proper leather varnish, rather than what I used, it's just that it can be expensive. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching! Nic :)

    Nic Mac thanks for the reply! subscribed 👍, with the matte varnish, does that help keep them safe from water or the paint from cracking?

  • @NicMac

    @NicMac

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@justing5155 It does! It fully re-seals and protects them :) and essentially puts back what was removed when acetone-ing the leather. With Posca's, I would be very careful when applying the varnish as it can smudge the design...I slowly dabbed a very thin coating of varnish on first, let it dry, and then brushed on a lot smoother and easier without having to worry. Works a treat! Hope that helps! Good luck and thanks so much Justin! :)

  • @NicMac

    @NicMac

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hey yes, I’d recommend the varnish I used in my latest video “gold soles” it’s a leather varnish by Angelus 👌 The pens can run but I have a tip, after drying as long as possible, use a small amount of varnish and just dab a very thin layer over the pen marks, very gently....and then once that’s dried...then you can be more heavy handed with brushing 👌👌👌

    @@savetonight98 I recommend spray with paintings and hard surfaces that you've used the pens on. But for leather...use leather varnish (which I didn't use in THIS video on my pair of trainers, but did in the latest one and the difference is immense) It's just the most durable and fixes everything properly :)

    @@NicMac thank you so much for all the tips. I’ll definitely give them a go. Just ordered the angelus leather varnish and hope that solves my issue. My design was entirely done with the posca so it’s quite a fair bit of dapping to be done to make sure I don’t spoil it. However Will also try n dap on a sample first w the varnish I was previously using which was the folk art satin leather varnish and see if there’s any difference w that too.
