Custom 1/16 US Willys MB Jeep Takom Complete Build

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Watch the complete build video for custom building the 1/16 US Willys MB Jeep by Takom which released last year. The build depicts the 117th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron in Germany 1945. This time I used a new layering painting strategy for chipping and weathering. It is a more time consuming method I think it turned out well and might use it for some of my coming project. The video captures the complete custom build works with step by step verbal and subtitle illustrations, you should find it helpful.

I wish 1/16 was a more popular scale. It's fabulus. I scratch built a RC 9'8"" FAC (small ship class), using Estes model rockets for Exocet missles, and in this scale, ALL major naval gun calibers can be bought in ordinary boxes of bullet calibers to simulate 3-5-6-8" ship shells. RC aircraft are VERY buildable in this scale also. I wish this could be a much more standard scale for figures as well as all types of vehicals.......

That is my wish too! I see 16th scale has become more popular in the last 10 years after some German and Japanese model companies took over from Tamiya;s role of producing 16th scale tanks. I believe the reason it becomes more popular is that the modelers in 70s who built a lot of 35th scale now has turned to middle age and can afford lot expensive toys and afford bigger houses to display them. For me, I also built 35th scale with my son but that scale could never satisfy our needs as an middle age adult. I believe that's why even 1/6 scale tanks are popular amongst some of the older wealthy people that longing for huge scale.

As far as armor subjects are concerned, 1/16 has been gaining traction within the last few years. I have 24 1/16 vehicles and tanks in my collection and that number will grow with every release. Not only is it great for aging eyes because of the larger parts and that more detail can be added, but I find it really conveys the bulk and heft of armored vehicles better than 1/35. That being said, I still have a very large amount of 1/35 kits.

C'est la première fois que je travaille sur un modèle américain de la Seconde Guerre mondiale depuis les années 70 et je suis content que cela se soit bien passé.

Another fantastic video. I also have this kit, and I will be using this video as my reference. Did you do any modifications to the frame? I believe there is a section of the frame that is supposed to be boxed in that this kit misses. How did you find the quality of the details on the gun?? Some say it could be replaced with a better 3D printed one, but I have not seen any examples of this. The kit does however need a better face on the driver. It looks to smooth like a store manikin. This is NO reflection on your work!! You can only do as good as some of the parts sometimes. Thanks again for your work. AMAZING

This is the first time I work on a 16th scale GI vehicle, and I really don’t have much study on the jeep, not sure about what you mentioned regarding this frame issue. But I found most of the details checked out accurately with the real photos. I only modified a bit on the seat and that is. Of course you could also add wires to the wipers on the windshield which I didn’t do. And you are right about the figure face it looks awkward no matter how you paint, I should have swapped it with a better one. The 50 cal M2 is so so and you can always replace with a Aber one but the weigh might be an issue.

@@henschelporsche1 My son has one of the dry ones as I call it, not the one with the resin bath. So with his, the resolution isn't that great for anything fine. What he has told me is the one with the bath produces the highest resolution and detail, but is has a few disadvantages. It can be a little smelly, and then you have to cure the items with UV. I figure with all the custom stuff many modelers will do, this isn't much of a disadvantage with all our stinky paints etc. I keep searching the 3Dimage web sites for figures etc, but have not found any that people are willing to share, or sell. As soon as I can find/buy some decent files, Im going out for a printer. That my excuse and im sticking to it. Do you have an email in case I find something? Cheers, KJ

@@hobbyhands976 thanks for sharing the info on 3D printing! I do have in mind the same wet resin type printer and would seriously do some research to purchase one next year as making those custom parts by hand not as good as printing. Could be much cheaper to print figures than buy them online. I do come across some 3d file website with nice 16th scale figures, perhaps you could forward to me if you have any in hand : customtankfigure@gmail.com thanks in advance!
