Cursed by a Nigerian witch doctor

Case 265: Marea Yann
For Marea Yann, two things mattered most in life - family and community. When the 69-year-old was found violently bludgeoned to death in her Healesville home, the small Victorian town was left shaken. It seemed impossible that anyone would want to hurt this doting grandmother and dedicated volunteer worker.
But as investigators learned more about Marea’s life, it quickly became clear that Marea had been living in fear of one person in particular.

When James was trying to hang himself, they should have let him do it. What a terrible, vile man!!! Marea was too kind. Rip Marea.

Usually when an abuser threatens suicide it also means they have contemplated taking your life too!
How Pauline could side with the man that killed her mother? Her mother didn't deserve that! Maria was there for Pauline while being threated by her husband. She lost her life helping her daughter! She sides with this man against her own mother! I would give anything to have been gifted with a mother like hers! She cared for others & opened her heart to the less fortunate. Her kindness ultimately cost her her life. You, Pauline stand by the killer. You should be ashamed of yourself!

Garbage child. Although its Marias own fault that she condoned and encouraged her daughter to marry a Nigerian man. This is what happens. He never should have been in the country
The family put up with so much drama and dangerous behavior from James. The fighting between the couple, the death threats, the assisting him when he claimed that he was going to off himself etc. At some point you have to stop playing along and say NO.

To the person beginning their thirties sober, I wish you continued happiness and sobriety which will give you peace and joy. I agree this channel is great and gives one lots to think about.
I usually don't know Australian cases but this one was on a KZread channel a few months ago. Still going to listen to it because Casefile always has some information that has not been revealed before. The bottom line of this story is don't marry someone who believes in witch doctors.
It is an early Saturday morning and it's Casefile time!!
This episode and most especially the immediate follow-up “Mark Van Dongen” comprise a romping return to form for the Casefile team. After an exhaustingly frustrating five or so episodes, these two entries are exquisite.
This Unamatu sounds like a hateful person, one of those husbands who says if you leave me ,I will destroy your family one by one over many years when you least expect. Pauline sounds like she should have listened to her mother. He was 52 worrying about money and they had no children to leave it too.

This story hit me hard. In many different ways. The mother who raised her 3 children after her man died - a big heart redy to help others for free ….. Food and clothing I’m so happy and grateful to hear that people like her still exist ❤ Sadly I didn’t understand the whole story. I’m a newbie lot to learn ! I’m 70 year old Swedish woman. Can someone please explain to me if the murder get free ? Or misunderstood it all ? Did her daughter divorce and then remarried another man ?? 🤷♀️ It is VERY HARD for me to understand it all . Deep in my ❤ I think of her as a “Mother Theresa” . 🙏❤️🙏🌟🌟🌟🙏

Great to know that Pauline defended her nutjob ex , after all that he put her and her mother through. I'm sure that Marea is not at peace knowing that her daughter is choosing a deranged sicko over her loving mother.

One of those sad and depressing cases. I believe the son in law murdered her. The witch dr threat was not deemed important enough.
I am glad Australia canceled the double jeopardy in case more evidence was to be discovered and in case the jury was biased toward a celebrity or just got it wrong. In the US, an accused who was found not guilty of a crime can later taunt the victims' families and even confess to the murder, and law enforcement can't do anything about it.
Thanks Matey 👍

Another case where the judge decides what is admissable.....justice is so lacking.
This case is maddening. The one guy with bright lights pointing they way to his guilt just walks away. There's a phrase that comes to mind like... neurotic humanitarianism... something like that. The inability to stop helping even when it hurts you, or won't do any good is what killed her. She should have allowed her low self esteem daughter get away from the nigerian voodoo prince quickly, instead of acting like there was hope for the marriage.
She went too far trying to help this man who was no good for her daughter. These cross cultural marriages can be high risk due to differences in values

Tbf, the evidence was all circumstantial and weak. I believe James killed her because James is clearly psycho. But if we had to convict someone of murder on these kinds of flimsy proofs, it'd be a grave miscarriage of justice. The Australian police is an absolute disgrace.
First from America 🇺🇸 Pittsburgh Pennsylvania 😊
These are always a bit gut wrenching, but god they are a curious to listen to.
There's a special place in Hell for the Paulines of this world.
Your shows are well done but there's one little thing. It's almost impossible to read the red type on your post page. A lighter red or purple would be better.
Nigerian “culture” might seem exciting to westerners, but Nigerians operate from a very, very different “morality.” Too many westerners are naive about this. James was an absolute dangerous nightmare and Maria and her daughter should have abandoned the situation long before they finally woke up from their ridiculous continuing involvement with a psychopath. It’s nice to be a caring, helpful person…don’t be stupid, though.

Hopping in bed with someone from a strange land and different culture can have consequences for everyone in your circle, fact's are just facts.
Being a resident in USA, I'd never heard about Maria❤ This case may currently be labeled "unsolved" but I know in my soul IT IS NOT UNSOLVABLE! My prayers go out to Maria's family & law enforcement 🙏The TRUTH always comes to light! I believe every word of the Holy Bible and can assure you that the Lord KNOWS EXACTLY who took Maria's life. His judgment & anger toward evildoers NEVER STOPS! And there is a final judgment coming when the killer(s), and anyone else complicit or holding back pertinent information will stand face to face with Almighty God and be judged. It will be such a shame if there is no forgiveness & repentance before the Final Judgment of Christ. Family, be strong & hold on to hope! I can only imagine how unbearable this has been😢just know that even when you hurt & feel immense grief, God hasn't forsaken you. Even in tragedy & great sorrow, God still has a purpose no matter how bleak things look in our eyes🙏I know this to be TRUE in my own life. I can say 100% that you have more power working for you than against you! May God bless the memory of your sweet Mum❤The words of her kindness & sweet character TRULY touched my heart❣

Case closed?! Thats the fucked up part! If he got a not guilty they had 19 other candidates to investigate right?!
So if I say a person assaulted me with a knife that is hearsay. OK. Sure
The problem with hitch hiking is you only need to be wrong once. She may never have had a problem before. This poor family has had to deal with her missing for over 3 decades. At least now they she did not abandon them.
Marea completely set her daughter up for this madness with her God complex and sense of ego inflation. Boy have i seen it so many times. It bloody writes itself
We already know who.murdered Maria. It's just that the murderer got lucky and slipped through the cracks.
Dont know how Pauline stood by her ex.
