K2, Type10, and Leopard 2A7V do shoot on their own. Both Chally 2 and Abrams still use +20 years old FCS. There is also a new player in the league. Its called T-90M - safe ammo storage with the blow-off cover - no flying turret, better protection, better FCS, 1150HP engine. Made in very small numbers tho. Compared to other Russian/Soviet tanks this one is quite pricy. Both Relikt ERA and Stora + Arena systems still work just as they did - useless.

It's kind of impressive how much armored warfare has developed throughout the years. Especially during the early-mid 1940s during WW2. In 1940 the tanks crews the commander hatch with periscopes and a scope for the gunner and it usually took a few shots to get the range right. Engagements were rarely over a longer distance than 2km. 4 years later the Germans mounted rangefinders since the guns could now fire over such long distances that letting one shot fly and aim thereafter wasn't cutting it. Maximum engagement ranges for the guns had been multiplied by 10 over a span of 5 years. The experimental range finder on one of teh Panzer V Panther variants had an effective range of 20km. To take that into perspective of how far that actually is, the longest hit from a naval gun onto another naval target was scored in 1940 and 1941 by the German battlecruiser Scharnhorst and the British battleship HMS Warspite. They hit their target at approximately 26km. However they were moving targets and they were moving themselves so that greatly affects the aim.

The real point of the Israeli Merkava's unique rear hatch is no to carry "up to 10 soldiers when removing ammo" , there are regular APCs for that - but to drive in reverse to the back of a tank that was disabled and safely extract the crew while still being protected from just about anything, as the crew is more important than the tank. This approach was built upon the proven ability of crews to abandon disabled tanks and continue to fight in other tanks, as they did in the Golan Heights at the Yom Kipur war (one soldier famously went through half a dozen tanks in a single night as they were outnumbered over ten to one and used night time guerrilla tactics to harass and cause chaos in the Syrian armor. read about "Zvika Force", it's amazing!). One of reasons why Iraq T 72 tanks just exploded, they had no ammo that can penetrate Abrams and also have been sitting ducks more or less, standing blind and alone.

And gotta have some respect for Leclerc for being the first 3.5 gen MBT. The Loepards are rock solid and reliable German made, probably the best MBT today(in terms of performance, but not so budget friendly.) And the Armata..some doubts for the Russian made, but if what they say is said to be true, a 4th gen MBT should theoretically out perform all of the above. And much love for the Korean Black Panther. Probably the most rational choice to be adapted by any army. Shout out to Turkey(hope they have resolve the power pack problem) and Poland :D

The thing that most of these have never been tested against eachother and that most are still unknown is incredibly ominous. Like, if a WWIII suddenly broke out, there'd suddenly be mass-produced tanks that nobody has ever seen before, slinging plasma bolts at eachother instead of the old fashioned sabots. The solid slugthrowers would still be in service, but not for long.

@@Tankliker In which context T-80 was more Russian than Ukrainian. First of all it was all Soviet Union. So no Russia, no Ukraine. T-80 design at 1967 was just a (further)reconsideration of the T-64A tank designed in Kharkov. While T-72 became a Russian, crude, cheap, stripped of advanced features poorman's T-64. T-80 was just a T-64 knock-off that lacked original design balance and ended up packed with poorly, yet costly, provided modenisation with the biggest issue possible a T-GE that just could not become a success in such a low tech.standards of organized servicing as seen in Russian army. That is no matter what. In the end, Siberian manufacturer of the T-80 lacked any interesting idea how to upgrade or modernize the tank. Therefore the T-90 took the official priority as an armored equippment modernisation and a financial backup.

This was an interesting video, but I feel that rounds for their respective tanks should be considered as well. For instance, even though the newer Leopard 2s use the L/55, their ammo (DM63) lags behind their constituents. M829A4 puts the M256, or L/44 with a different breach, on par with, or even better than its DM63 firing counterpart. Germany is still developing DM73, and then they may have a decent round, but they are not there yet.
