Some stylists cut it blown out wash the hair, gel etc and then after that go in to clean up the cut 😊..

It's definitely possible to get your splits cut while your hair is curly but they never focus on the splits. They look for gaps in the hair, call it damage, and then cut. A split end looks like a fork in the road and they're obvious when you look closely. The problem is that the stylists don't know what they're doing most of the time. One of the blackgirlcurls ladies said that you don't need a leave on conditioner but when she straightens her hair, the cuticle is clearly poorly sealed due to lack of a leave in conditioner. Many have said it before, that license means you're allowed to get paid- it doesn't mean you're knowledgeable or that you know what you're doing.

If your hair is cut curly, it'll never be even because curls aren't even and split ends will be missed. Best bet is to get a blown out trim for dead ends, then a curly cut for shape..... As far as the no oil, or shampoo stuff people are taking about. That's just wild.

Yeah thats it. I feel like the curly cut un does all of the hard work even so as it makes it uneven . Mine was terrible

Yeah. It did a number on mine. Just get it even. With natural hair a straight even cut is best. Even layers go bad after a while.

Agreed! I would go even further and say “not sleek blow out or flat ironing the hair to trim is damaging” as well. I’ve had so many stylist blow dry my hair and trim my ends before a protective style and my ends were ravaged when i took my hair out bc they didn’t get all my dead ends.

I wouldn’t say so no. I think its all relative. If you do a sleek bun or silk press once in a while, no you shouldn’t experience damaged. Especially if your hair is in good health to begin with, but if you over do these then yes I would agree.

Great video! I’ve had about a years worth of curly cuts and my split ends are awful! I think it’s been compounded by the no oils and butters haircare routine as well. I’ve had a lot of inches cut off since this past May and may have to end up shaving my head. The damage is just that mind blowing! I’ve been documenting my experiences here on KZread in hopes of finding real solutions and in an effort to help others not go through this or or recognize that they are. The backlash I’ve received for sharing my experiences has been a bit overwhelming but I refuse to be silenced about it. Overall, I agree with you 💯 and I love your recommendations regarding this topic. Well done 👏🏽🥰

I'm so glad I found this video. I feel so validated. I have had two curly haircuts (both about $300) and they both turned out to be the worst haircuts I had ever received. I have 2B/2C curly hair and have always had it cut wet or straight. It's never really been a problem until my stylist quit during covid and then moved away 😭 Then I heard about a curly hair salons and thought they'd be about to help. I asked for layers and she cut my hair into a rounded hedge. It was awful. I started going back to non curly hair salons and it helped. After a few years I tried another curly hair salon and the stylist was just awful. She washed, styled, and dry cut my curly hair. My hair was 3/4 of the way down my back. I asked to cut enough to clean up my dead ends and into healthy hair. She cut it just passed my shoulders. I washed it out the next day and tried to style it again. It didn't land the same. I noticed some really uneven pieces that weren't there the day before. There's a small chunk of hair growing out of my left temple that is 4 inches short. It's so bad that I actually hate my hair now. I wear a wrap or a head scarf to cover it. I'll never go to a curly hair salon again.

Ah so sorry to hear this happened to you. Curly cuts arent for everyone. Luckily I didn't have as bad an experience as you but nonetheless i feel your frustration.

Had a curly cut once but like you said, didn’t get rid of the split ends! Tbh it was my normal hairdresser who doesn’t specialise in curly cuts so not sure why I expected lol

No they actually remove a lot of length. Many ladies said on this method their hair remained short.

I'm so happy i came across your video. It seems basically I have the same hair type as you. I've been natural for about 8 years now after returning from a visit to my family in England, I noticed my hair was coming out in long strands from the roots and I got so scared I haven't been to a hair salon ever since being natural. I trim my hair every once in a while myself, but not as often as I should. I'm afraid to blow out my hair to trim because I've heard that you will lose your curl pattern. Can you help me with this, because I don't want to lose my curl pattern. I love your videos and your explanation. Thank you and God bless🙏🏽

Heyyy glad you found my channel! You will only loose your curl pattern IF you get heat damage in the process of blow drying and straightening. I use heat on my hair at least 4x a year and ive had no loss of curl pattern. Always make sure you use heat protectant and go to a trusted professional 🥰

I went to the curl bar London as well for my first curly cut to give me shape. The shape and definition was so good at first, but when I re styled my hair the shape was never the same. The shape I had before was non existent. I left the salon with my hair rounded with lift but when I would re style my hair was flat with no shape. I realised the stylist didn’t actually give me a good quality cut, the process was really quick and brief like she was just cutting the outline of my hair as if it was a hedge. I hated the ugly shape I was left with so 3 months later I went to another salon, Curl talk. And that was a much better experience. The stylist took a lot longer during the cut process which gave me hope that she was actually going in and taking her time cutting every single curl clump. She was correcting the failed cut I received from curl bar London. Also before the curly cut she would stretch my hair between her fingers and trimmed all my ends. When I would re style my hair my curls would fall nicely back to place into the shape the stylist made. That was £120 Going forward I want to get trims on blown out hair. I’m hoping my ends aren’t too bad since I’ve already had 3 curly cuts. It’ll be a lot cheaper too.

Yes I found out about how curly Cuts were affecting my hair after going to get my routine yearly silk press. I was floored at how my ends were after getting a year with curly cuts only. I have since had to cut over 5 inches of my hair with more to go. So I have to make it clear it’s not just the curly cuts it’s the whole methodology that is pushed by this group that seems to have caused the overall damage to my hair. I followed all the rules 👀🙈🤣, was going to get trims every 3-4 months spending over $200. I get Dm of women sharing the damages that this whole curly cut and methodology has destroyed their hair. When the hair is set curly it’s impossible to see damage, however when blown out it’s eye opening. The group is now I believe trying to institute this method in Europe and for children as well. Curly Cuts are not bad if you want an amazing shape it will deliver but the notion that was pushed and still is pushed is that it takes care of split ends and health, and that proved otherwise for many experiencing damage. The amazing thing is there is awareness so each individual can see signs like webbing, Velcro ends but honestly when the hair gets to that point you are truly looking at getting a big chop.

Wow 5 inches! I'm glad i didn't continue as mine would have been alot worse too. Yes its a hard one as the shape is great but the ends and health are compromised. Like why cant we just have both?

I've been getting curly cuts in the UK for the past 10 years. I have fine high porosity hair and was traumatised getting a silk press in a traditional black hair salon because they used way too much heat and my hair was damaged permanently. I haven't straightened my hair since then. I think this is only an issue if you wear your hair both curly and straight. I only wear my hair curly so I am not bothered by the uneveness. My hairdresser always gets all of my dead ends, even to the point where I think he has cut too much off. But the shape is always incredible, even when it grows out. In between cuts I trim my own ends, but I think also think if length is a priority and you only wear your hair curly, it's ok for them to be a little raggedy.

This resonates with me. I never wear my hair straight. Ever. I also have fine, high porosity hair and cannot imagine doing that much manipulation just to cut it.

Yes many people are traumatised by a bad silk press experience. Fortunately that’s never happened to me only bad curl cut experiences. I agree to an extent as i do like both straight and curly styles.

My hair looked horrible when I got the curly cut specifically ouidad. I feel like my hair is still trying to recover from it. I have more of a loose curl and my hair looked so thin, my ends were not looking good. My hair had a lot breakage causing it to take forever to grow. Never again.

The methodology is great. I don't miss raw oils/butters which says a lot since I have 4b/c hair. The issue is a lack of well educated stylists. There are plenty I could travel to but going on a trip every 3-4 months for a trim is insane for me in this economy 😂 Since I don't live near anyone who knows how to do a well executed curly cut on my hair type I just stick to blown out cuts to keep my ends healthy. Very happy I learned how to do a proper wash and go from them though.

I believe it’s not educated stylist it’s more that curly cutting isn’t appropriate for every hair type. Did you see the video Anthony Dickey put out recently. This is actually his 2nd video re curly cuts. He’s been saying they aren’t appropriate if curly hair for years

I trim my hair myself every 4 months. I go once a year to get it shaped. I had a stylist butcher my hair in 2022. I told him “Don’t cut so much .” He told me “It’s just a little bit.” He teased it up. When I went home and re-washed it . The right side was shorter than the left. It didn’t lay right. I had to get a full haircut

The thing is you want two opposite thing a curly cut on curly hair which is by nature not even… and then expect it to be straight when straighted, that’s not how it works. I get the part about the split ends, you can easily trim those while keeping the shape. But by cutting your hair blunt while straight yeah your shape is gonna be flat and liveless and have gaps

I agree with this statement. The stylist will do what you want. If you just want a shape up, that’s all they will do. If you want a bit more off to address the ends as well that should be specified. A curly cut will always be uneven. Always. And like stated, you can’t have both at the same time. A straight cut will leave your curly hair uneven when it’s curly and leave zero shape

So what would be best for your split ends?

Yeah atm im just focusing on length and keeping it stretched so once I’ve achieved the length i want i’ll look at the shape

I am 49 and cared for my amazing hair for 38 y just fine before the whole curly trend began. I did the no poo for 7 years, not only the products but cuts. It destroyed my hair and scalp to the point I looked like I had female baldness. I went back to my routine. I don't recommend either.

I just went to a curly hair salon and they said getting it cut any other way would ruin my hair.
