    Generally, there are two pronunciations for this city and Cor-EE’-tabah isn’t one of them. The locals generally pronounce it : Cor-ee-TI-bah. And the rest of Brazil normally pronounces it: Cor-ee-CHEE’-bah. Also, the letter J is pronounced in Portuguese while it’s silent in Spanish. The former mayor and city planner who we owe a big debt of gratitude for the many improvements he facilitated with Curitiba, pronounces his first name JAY-me, that is before he passed away a few years ago.
