naaaah incredible how larry and seinfeld made the best show ever in television history but they can't do their own succesful show alone. Jerry has that driving with comedians show which is boring as fuck and Larry had several unsuscessful shows over the last few years. Honestly I don't even find Jerry too funny in his stand up shows. Most of Seinfeld success I think came from the other characters, george, elaine and krame more than the Jerry character.

It's only a thing in America, I'm Australian and love watermelon and I couldn't give a fuck whose eating it, Ive never associated watermelon with black people I don't even understand where the cliche comes from, are there tons of watermelons in Africa or something cos I don't see people there eating them.

It's unbelievable how this show is able to churn out conceptual originality after all these years with the same characters. It started 23 years ago, and people are always happy to binge watch a new season. If that's not genius I dont know what is.

I love this bit because I had a similar conversation years ago with one of my students. We were on the steps after class just talking about what we were going to do for the weekend. I mentioned that I was going to my grandma's house and we were going to have fried chicken and watermelon. He got real serious and said he really avoids that food because of the stereotype. I said that he was being ridiculous because fried chicken and watermelon is just Southern food. But it was very interesting seeing that he felt that having good food he enjoyed would somehow damage his image by feeding into Black stereotypes.

I'm a white guy from Australia, but it never really made sense to me the whole making fun of black people about fried chicken and watermelon thing. Like, okay, those are two delicious foods? About the only thing you could conclude from that stereotype is that African Americans have good taste.

I'm 54 and grew up on watermelon. Totally ❤it. Everyone ate watermelon in the 70s. Especially 4th of July. When did it become such a problem?😮

Watermelon was used as black stereotype, originating from the southern US in the 1800’s. Because most blacks are aware of the stereotype we refuse to be seen purchasing, eating or enjoying said fruit as to not to perpetuate the stereotype. Even though is fking delicious.
