    The flag in the picture “Prisoners at the Front” is not a surrender flag. The Civil War saw the adoption of Corps Badges. This flag is the red trifoil symbol on a white flag of the 1st Division of the 2d Corps, Army of the Potomac. You will also see the red trifoil symbol on the kepi hat of the Union soldier guarding the prisoners. Hope this helps.
