What an awesome idea! Great to see love for homebrew classes as well as see how they stack up rather than just trying to figure each out in isolation.

Total respect to you for highlighting the works of others as well as your own. Great video. There are some great classes that i have, and more that I will be getting, that i look forward to playing at a table. Thanks for the video!

I haven’t heard of a lot of these classes, so this was a great dive into some awesome homebrew! Thanks!

Love it. My little tweak to monks that solved so many issues with it: ki points scale at monk level + proficiency bonus. Gives them just the little bump in ki they need at each tier of play, and makes multiclassing much more appealing for a 2-5 lvl dip.

As someone who has limited experience with Homebrew classes, I really appreciate introduction to a bunch of really cool classes I have yet to see!

Super happy to see all these options. I appreciate you sharing them and their creators! Looking for to adding some of these to my table.

I’ve been waiting for this video for so long!!! Never clicked on something faster.

I've made a full class before, so I know its a lot of work, especially when it comes to balancing and making sure you're not taking away features from the other classes and just making them functionally better. So it's really impressive to me that not only there are so many people creating full classes, but also people who are creating a nutload of them individually, it's the kind of dedication and hard work that I can respect.

(Commenting at 1:45 in) I think between your Merchant and Alchemist classes, you've got the workings right there on replacing the Artificer. I'm guessing this isn't my genius discovery and you'll mention a similar point later.

I know this comment is a year old but the Kibblestasty Inventor (originally created as an artificer for 5e before the official was released) is my go to for a better artificer. personally I think it best fills the fantasy of what an artificer is with so much opportunity for unique builds and teamwork alongside plenty of room to flavour the abilities however you want.

Always a big fan of this kind of content. I love seeing 3rd party content spread to new tables. And thanks for the shout out at the end btw. :)

This kind of lists provide excellent ideas of what quality homebrew is, great that this is done to present ideas for people who might be on the fence about what good homebrew is.

i really like all of these options, and will absolutely be looking into these classes to allow at my own table! question, have you ever looked into the Alternate Fighter/Monk/Ranger/Barbarian from u/Laserllama? ive been personally using them at my tables and they’ve proven pretty damn nice, cheers!

I remember looking at some of Laser's changes to Fighter and liking them, but it felt like the mechanics were designed in a way that Reddit wouldn't have had a strong reaction to them. I think after I did my video on Laser, they made changes to their Fighter revision. It's been a while though.

@@Indestructoboy I definitely recommend the actual Alternate classes themselves, I remember watching you go over the fighter archetypes Laser made for the vanilla 5e fighter, but the Alternate is a complete overhaul of it. It’s pretty dope

Yeah, they've made some great revisions recently to make multiclassing martials more interesting, and finalizing the maneuver things every class gets access to to have more class identity. Also the swap of action surge over to level six just makes so much more sense, also think they moved down fourth extra attack to level seventeen

I both like and dislike LaserLlama's Monk, it gets an overall buff but loses Diamond Soul working on Death Saves. Still doesn't have an infinite lifespan.

Thanks for the video and for going a bit into the details, makes the whole list way more interesting. Now, I've been working on a class named "The Dream Shifter" for a long time now and you might have stumbled over it. It started as an over-designed bottom-up class, but after 4 major updates, version 5 seems to be much more thematic and most of the mechanical problems seem to have worked themselves out. It's pay-what-you-want on DM's Guild, so if you wanna read something weird, it would be an honor if you would take a look at it.

I have been looking into reworking oath of the crown as a way to make a super tank but now you sold me on your Vanguard class. I'm not kidding, that was exactly what I was looking for. Picking it up rn.

Having seen a number of the Magehand press ones used at my table (mostly by players, but also having casually played the Warmage myself), I can't speak highly enough of the general polish that their completed classes have brought out. The Warmage, in particular, is one I've enjoyed for the versatility of build you can get out of it; it cranks the idea of what the Eldritch Invocations are up to 11 by opening it up to the obvious: other common (and often ignored!) cantrips getting the Invocation treatment.

Back in 3.5 edition Dreamscarred Press did really well with Psionics and pushed for a dream magic bent that fits much easier into D&D. They stopped soon after 4e, though I think they tried with Pathfinder 1e for a bit longer.

Hilarious, I've been working on my own TTRPG system that I designed as a "Everything I wish D&D 5e was" kind of thing, and in that system: Bards are not a full caster, Monks have many more means of Ki utility/recovery than 5e, Rangers are a full Martial class, and Warlocks have Eldritch Blast as a Class feature.

Hey Taron, really liked the video and gave me a lot of new options to look into! In terms of the accursed, after having it at your table does it ever feel overly complex in terms of streamline and tracking? I am seriously considering the class, but am concerned it might bog down play or combat too much

None of the players that ran the Accursed are what I would consider "crunch" players, and they seemed to have no issue running it.

I've been thinking of making a witchcraft subclass for wizards, but seeing a full witch class has already been written by an expert I'm definitely checking it out!

Have you checked out the Spheres or Power 5E conversion? Their elementalist is really good. I adore that supplement though. Best 3PP material for PF1E adopted to 5E. It’s very good.

Enjoying Huffman's pugilist and magus. I like the look of Walrock's Witch. Recommend a look at Laserllama's Savant.

A tad late on finding this video, but have you seen the Psion in Weird wastelands by WebDM? I'm looking at playing it soon and am pretty happy with the read through I've had so far!

ignoring and rework classes. I think The Commoner from u/laserllama should definitely get a look at. Fun martial class that leans in to gritty fun and support options

hey, this is an older vid so im unsure if you'll see it (love the content btw!). but my question is, where do your players make their character sheets? like do you just use dndbeyond with hella homebrew or another software?

On the dancer class, Is there a reason the quasi-Unarmord Defense has been removed from the Brandished Blade's Weapon Arts feature? I couldn't find anything on that in the changelog.

Still think your psion is worth pursuing. Your take on it is very refreshing. Maybe consider changing the name to stand out, but it’s definitely super cool and I love the zero magic take and the no armor and instant damage.

The sorcerer subclasses that has themed spells are the banned ones? =/

There is a class that i have allowed at my table and actually played is called the Tarocchi a full spell caster that csats spells through a 52 deck of playing cards its by Alex tanner on the DMsguild

I loved the Tarocchi by Alex Tanner so much that I made a subclass based on Uno for it

All these seems very cool and inter classes. Ofc I already planned to buy yours, just waiting for them to be all on you shopify store, so to not give moneys to the Guild, or for a package that puts them all together (cause I’m that lazy ahahah). Also think I’m gonna look into Heavy’s Gunslinger since I have a player currently playing the Mercer’s Fighter Sub, so I want to see it and see if my player would like to swap and dive deeper into being a gunner. And last but not the least, Ross’s classes all sound really cool, in particular I want to get the Accursed and the Odic (the moment the upgraded version gets dropped outside of that book…I don’t remember how’s it called)

Somebody had a homebrew witch class that I added a coven of the moon to so that the player could be a sailor scout

That campaign ended and I built a different world.

If youre looking for an Artificer replacement, i would suggest "The Inventor" by Kibblestasty. The flavor and subclasses are very fun. Far more enjoyable that canon Artificer.

I didn't know Heavyarm's gunslinger was originally a revised ranger. Very interesting.

This isn't _quite_ correct. Originally (way back in May 2018) I did set out intending to revise the ranger, but I pivoted to a Western aesthetic fairly quickly. Deadeye/Bad Medicine etc weren't created as features for a ranger-they are gunslinger features designed for a gunslinger 👍

@@heavyhimself Well, I'm glad you did, the Gunslinger is great. My brother is playing a Gunslinger in a campaign right now and loving it. Though I'd also be interested to see you work on a revised ranger. :)

I would do some work on paladin. I think ancients and glory could use a little help.

Has anyone taken a closer look, or even heard of the 'Mutophage' class? I find it very intriguing, but as a newbie DM I have NO idea if it's balanced or not. It sure has some pizzazz to it. I'd be glad if someone could clear me up!

No, D&D Beyond doesn't allow for full classes to be added in Homebrew.

5e monk simultaneously fails to be the pure unarmed fighter you're looking for, and fails to be the anime swordsman _I'm_ looking for. WOTC really needs to split the design intent. One class for pure unarmed with no magic, anothet class all-in on anime powers.

I’d love to see a book come from this; which hopefully doesn’t step on any feet for the Valda’s Spire of Secrets 😅

Curious if you consider MCDM’s classes to be “homebrew,” or too professionally designed to be on this list? I really like their Beastheart class, but never got into the Illrigger. And I have to give a shout out to the Pugilist, I’ve played three different characters with that class, and had a few in my games.

start at lvl-0 as one of the following professions: Commoner: become any class Expert: Bard or Rogue Warrior: Barbarian, Fighter or Ranger Adept: Sorcerer or Wizard Acolyte: Cleric or Paladin Curate: Druid or Monk in order to advance into an actual class, the character must find a mentor. the mentor must be minimum of 6th lvl. the character can only advance levels by training with the mentor. ONLY Sorcerer and Wizard can cast spells. ONLY Cleric, Paladin and Druid can pray for magical benefit. there are also a limited list of available Races: Human Human/Elf (half Elf) Elf Dwarf Halfling Gnome nobody has dark vision. only Dwarf and Gnome have low-light vision.

I checked out the Elementalist. Full Caster and 3 attacks and chi points? It's doing a bit too much. Best to tone down a little

Should check out Soren's conversion of the FF14 classes as 5e classes. I personally allow things like Samurai and Gunbreaker at my table

Wizard mostly just studies high level spells. Unless one invests into it, a wizard wouldn't be much more knowledgeable or skillful than other classes. Scholar is actually not caster, nor a martial. At base, they are a really squishy skill monkey who has easy access to expertise, can shoot a crossbow using intelligence, and has an inspiration-like ability, but stronger and a reaction. At later levels there is also a floating skill and a reliable talent to keep you skilling. Subclasses either give you a whole bunch of utility, or a good amount of buffing and supporting your allies, or a mix of the two.

This video makes me REALLY wish that custom classes were allowed in DNDBeyond.

Have you seen The Doctor by EarlGrey?

Gonna be honest, as a DM myself, i am of the philosophy that no Class or Subclass should be banned, with exceptions for Worldbuilding or Better Homebrew. As a DM, you should be able to run everything official source books.

So far, I'm only aware of Laser's Savant. Personally, I think Benjamin's Scholar scratches the same niche, so I don't really see a need for it at my table.
