CUPRA Formentor | Is This The Perfect Car for Everybody? | 4K

CUPRA has taken a significant step forward with the launch of the CUPRA Formentor, the first model developed exclusively by the brand.
The high-performance coupé crossover is the embodiment of the CUPRA DNA: sophistication, innovation and a dynamic driving experience. At a time when the coupé crossover segment is forecast to continue to grow, the CUPRA Formentor coupé SUV combines the benefits of a performance car with the qualities of an SUV.
The CUPRA Formentor is full of character, sculpted to emphasise its attributes and exude motion. It sits closer to the ground than other SUVs to highlight its sportiness, while visual emphasis placed towards the rear of the vehicle and accentuation of the bonnet underscores its dynamic character.
“The CUPRA Formentor encapsulates the essence of the brand and will be key in establishing the brand as a relevant player in the market. Thanks to this model, we expect CUPRA to expand its international presence and double its sales volumes. Together with the CUPRA Leon and CUPRA Ateca, the CUPRA Formentor will also integrate two plug-in hybrid versions, proving that electrification and performance are a great match.,” said SEAT President and CUPRA CEO, Wayne Griffiths.
The CUPRA Formentor, named after cape Formentor on the Spanish island of Mallorca, was designed, developed and is built in Martorell, Barcelona. Production began on 29th September 2020 and it is the first model to be homologated under the CUPRA brand.
For the UK market, Formentor has been curated to include a long equipment list as standard across five highly-specified trims, named V1, V2, VZ1, VZ2 and VZ3. As standard on V1 trim, customers get 18-inch alloy wheels, 12-inch infotainment touchscreen with connected navigation, 10-inch digital driver binnacle, LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, Adaptive Cruise Control, wireless smartphone charger, a leather steering wheel and rear parking sensors.

    If you look at the blueprints, it's almost exactly the size of an Audi Q3 Sportback. Same wheelbase. One cm less in the front, 3 cm less in the back. 3 cm less high. It however looks way smaller. Personally I love it.

    El tope de gama al menos en España es el limitado en numero llamado Veloz5 por los 5 cilindros y 2.5 litros o VZ5 con 390 cv y 4'2 sec de 0-100 km/h.aunque es facil rebajar cifra ya que realmete es menor.

    Audi restricted access to how many engines CUPRA could have for the VZ5 as a result we don't get it here in the UK.

    I have this car in the VZ2 310 bhp version, yes it is as good as he demonstrates but what he fails to mention is that the infotainment system is full of bugs and does some weird stuff like not letting you enter the car, or it can make random phone calls to even slamming the brakes on for no apparent reason whatsoever as just a few examples. VW know about this problem as it's a similar problem across their range of cars fitted with this infotainment system but the Formentor has many electrical niggles that need sorting, what are they doing about it? Very little.

    @@smcmotorgroup There's been a number of software updates over the last two years from VW to try and sort out the problems but we Formentor owners all wait for the final fix, I 'm currently running version 1898.

    @@smcmotorgroup Yes I've read about this one on the SeatCupra forum, Formentor section. My car goes in for a service in a few weeks so I'll mention it to them. If you were to visit the site you would be shocked by the number of infotainment and electrical issues that the Formentor suffers from, it's the most talked about topic.

    I have the V2 and I have experienced the sudden braking issue. But I did notice that it happens when I was making sudden slow turn, like turning at a junction while another car turned into my side of the road got very close to my side in an a certain angle. I thought it may be a safety feature as the car me have thought there was going to be a collision. The car drives great and I love every bit. My overhead lamp stopped working after 11 months though.

    I have a VZ, pretty good car but the infotainment/GPS is a mess. It goes bonkers together with all the sensors and you are on your own. The worst thing is the dealers do not know how to fix it.

    It woud be perfect car if it had 200hp tdi we saw in some other VAG cars, preferably with 4x4 and 7 speed DSG. PHEV-s are not really practical since they eat up lot of boot space ( 100-80 L less than fwd/4wd) and add 100kg of mass (dead weight on highway) plus most people don't really charge them and at best use them as classic hybrids since it's still hassle to charge them everyday even if you are lucky enough to have dedicated place to charge. Petrol engines are not really economical in city driving, 190hp tsi in formentor easy drinks 9L/100km and stronger ones go over 10L. All in all, it needs strong diesel for that sweet spot between economy and performance. But it sure is nice looking car.

    In left hand drive markets you can buy a Formentor with a TDI engine. However in the UK where we would require the TDI version to be re-engineered for right hand drive wouldn't make financial sense. For context in October the SMMT reported that just 7.3% of all cars registered were either pure diesel or mild hybrid diesel and that number is shrinking (down from 8.8% in 2022). Plus if you were doing mostly city driving we wouldn't reccomend a diesel anyway as short low speed trips can clog up the diesel particulate filters and you don't get the MPG benefit over the additional fuel cost without large amounts of motorway driving. As for plug in hybrids, while there are a number of drawbacks what appeals to fleets is the massive reduction in benefit in kind tax that company car owners have to pay. Therefore these versions can work out cheaper to run than the equivelent petrol.

    @@smcmotorgroup Thank you for reply. Here in Germany, tdi is available, but only as 150hp version. VAG has 200hp version in Q3, Octavia RS, even Seat Tarraco and it would be good fit for Formentor. DPF is weak spot, but on the weekend, you go on autobahn and floor it so it regenerates. Unfortunatley, tsi engines in city driving can't really reach mpg numbers of tdi engines. Lot's of people do use phev as company cars because of tax benefits and subsidies, but rarlely if ever charge them which kind of defeats whole purpose of giving tax brakes and subsidies in the first place.

    2:04 If it’s the same size as a Golf, then how can it have a 450 litre boot compared to the Golf’s 380 and have way more space for 5 than the Golf?

    It shares the same MQB Evo platform as the Golf. Now I'll grant you it is a bit shorter than the estate and a bit longer than the hatch. But I think we're splitting hairs at that point and if we went into every minute detail it would be a very long, complicated and dull video.

    If practicality is what you're after than an Ateca which is built on the same platform as a Golf and Formentor offers a really boxy 485 litres.

    Style over substance. Loads of road noise. I have the V2 hybrid as a company car. It’s quick. But I’m getting only 40mpg, the tank is very small so I have to fill up almost every day now. The boot is very very small. It’s full of gadgets. But there’s too many distractions inside for me. Looks good, but who cares when you’re inside? I would not spend 42 thousand pounds on it.

    If you're only getting 40 mpg that shows to me you're clearly not charging it. We've had customers who bought these getting over 100 when used as it was intended. But then I assume you bought the hybrid over the standard 1.5 for the company car tax saving?
