This scam goes back to the 1500s actually, so London has always had this. Some historians think this scam actually came from ancient Greece.

This scam has been around for literally 100s of years, very effective.

Next time call the police and tell them there is a scam going on. When they say they are too busy, tell them you have one the scammers pinned down and they are having trouble breathing. They'll be there in 2 minutes

No real point, the police know. Its been the same groups of Romanians out on that bridge every day running that scam forever. They rarely come out and intervene. Sad part is people fall for the three card monte / shell game despite it being a well known as a scam.

The police are very friendly with scammers and thieves. At Valencia airport, a group of Roma ladies and men stole our bag and the police did not help us. The police lied about the CCTV recording and destroyed the CCTV recording of the crime. The police ignored to arrest of the group of thieves and played dirty games with the victims. The only job of the police was to give us a paper that the police received the complaint and now the police will investigate and arrest the criminals. But in reality, the police destroyed the CCTV recording of the crime to protect the identity of the criminals and did no investigation. This kind of police is more dangerous than these scammers and thieves.

Not much sympathy for any idiot that falls for such an obvious scam.

Fair play to you mate, although it’s probably not worth getting stabbed by one of these bottomfeeders for muppets with no awareness of their surroundings. Props none the less 🤜🤛

I think you'll find they are all Romanian.

They aren’t just scamming people, the group also look to see how much money you have and then see which pocket you keep it in and will try to pick your pocket if they know it is easy for them to do so. The cup game is just one layer of a stack of crimes they commit and get away with.

I'm in London twice a year and go over that bridge on the bus. I don't recall seeing any of this but maybe I'm not paying attention. I've seen this game played all over Europe and in the States for almsot 50 years and people still think they can beat them. Just walk on.

The scam is a group of people, one with cups and a ball on a piece of carpet. They trick people who are not in the group to hand money over, by making them think they know where the ball is, because they can remove the ball from all of the cups at the time it is your turn to pay the money. It is a well known scam. Everyone who wins money, is a part of the scam group.
