Cunard Queen Victoria Cruise Ship Tour & Review
Here is my FULL tour and review of Cunard’s Queen Victoria. It was my first time on board this ship and I certainly got my steps up making sure I filmed all the locations for you, from deck 1 all the way up to deck 12, all the restaurants, bars, pool areas, a walk around the promenade, a visit to the spa, the thermal suite, the gymnauseum, the royal boxes in the theatre and the list goes on! Join me on this leisurely walk. West something comfy and stay hydrated! Follow me on Instagram and Twitter @travelblogjamie and my website travelblogjamie.com. I’m also on Facebook - jamiewrobins

The QV is my second favorite ship, after the now-gone QE II. I mostly prefer transatlantic, so my next trip will be QM II (in December 2024) and Britannia Restaurant which will be a first for me, since I've always booked Queen's Grill in the past. The QV is a beautiful, classic ship. I crossed from Southampton to NYC in (as I recall) 2008 or 2009, and as it was winter and the ship wasn't full I was upgraded to a Queen's Grill 1 suite, the largest type of suite available, with living room, dining room, galley, bedroom, two bathrooms, and a giant walk-in closet. It was in the stern of Deck 8 and had a huge wraparound deck, not too useful in January but impressive. Now that cruising has become so popular I doubt that will ever happen again! All that being said, I must admit that Cunard's standards have declined markedly since Carnival bought them, which I expected. There are no more formal nights and cocktail-attire nights, which for me are the main reason for ship travel. The captain's parties for World Club members also seem to have disappeared, and Queen's Grill class passengers are no longer escorted to their suites at embarkation. Maybe for most people such things aren't an issue, but trust me, there are still a lot of us who enjoy that level of service and are willing to pay for it. Why can't they reinstate the formal and semi-formal dinners for Grills passengers, who have their own dining rooms?

We had a lovely 2 weeks on Victoria. As first-time cruisers, it was a great overall experience and very good value for money. A good balcony cabin, excellent food, very good entertainment and also the insight lectures and theatre were very good particularly Midge Ure who was very entertaining and so humble. We had heavy weather, though, courtesy of the Baltic and North Sea. We did have one very dodgy moment, though when we were in the theatre, the ship lost all propulsion and power plunging us all into almost total darkness. The captain spoke on the PA system, but we never did get an explanation. The engines and power were out for about 10 minutes, and the ship started to roll a little as we broached onto the waves. It would have been good to get an explanation as I assume this isn't a regular occurrence! All in all, it was very enjoyable, and we will be going back for a second cruise albeit on Queen Mary, You were right about afternoon tea, simply sublime!!

Hi Jamie... really enjoying your vlogs... keep up the great work! Interested in your opinion on whether Cunard may be too 'stuffy' for my family and I? I get the impression from your videos, that we'd probably be OK, but curious about your views. We're a 50 year old couple with 17 yo daughter. Love Royal Caribbean and have enjoyed P&O Iona. We don't do formal at all, however smart casual is fine. Would we feel out of place? Thanks in advance
@TravelBlogJamie
Жыл бұрын
I think on a formal night the absolute vast majority on Cunard dress up and I would too. On P&O I don’t feel ‘out of place’ opting out and heading out and about as usual but I’d feel less comfortable on Cunard as it’s a loooong ole upheld tradition. But you don’t have to, of course! I’m happy to not have to wear a jacket anymore on smart casual eves on Cunard

I really want to like these new Cunard ships but truthfully, they are tacky. The decor belongs in an American shopping mall. The outside, they look like apartment buildings on a hull. I know this kind of decor appeals to Americans, it's what they think luxury is, but still, it wouldn't take much to have truly designed a nice-looking ship. The new Queen Anne is even worse with its high forehead above the bridge ... it looks ridiculous.
