Cumbrian Silage 2023. JF drag chopper team working under cloudy skies with MF 7614, 6465 & 390!

Having had rain almost every day July it was grab your chance as the clouds gathered overhead at a stock farm in Cumbria. Powering the JF FCT850 forager (on the farm from new and now in it’s 28th season) through the heavy crop was a MF 7614 while carting the Marshall 8.5 ton trailers from field to farm and back was a MF 6465 Dynashift. At the pit was the farms MF 390 with its Duncan cab removed as the shed gets very full from the one and only cut of the year. The bright side of the warm but wet weather meant it was packed to the rafters when the last trailer load went in!

Super video David, not too often we see trailers dragged behind these days, JF has obviously been very well maintained for those 28 years, plenty left in her yet.

We sold few these back in the Day when we was Massey Dealer's down here in Swansea and Great machines as save fuel and need less HP as the Drum flicks it straight up the shoot and we had Tarrup 602's when contracting and the Drum goes the opposite way so need more HP and stress on the machinery

Hi Andrew. Yes it’s a unique design the JF with the drum rotating in the opposite direction and as you say the conventional type of forager such as the Tarrup needs more power and as you rightly point out more stress on the machinery. I’ve seen many a 100hp tractor easily drive a JF trailed with even less (75-80hp) for the side mounted FC models that alas are not around here very much now as I would love to film one! Great comment Andrew and really interesting to hear about you being a MF dealer, bet you seen some great outfits go to your customers. Cheers, David.

Cheers Steve. I know what you mean about there being so many different models, back in the day of the MF 135 or 500 series there were about 6! Easy Peasy! This one’s about 140hp so well suited to the JF. Well done, have you still got the cup?
