Hopefully later this year, the 487 will be returning to service again for the first time since October 2021, but as an oil burner instead of a coal burner. By the time that happens, the C&TS will have 2 active converted oil burners, those being the 489 and the 487.

Havew you noticed the oil burners putting out more smoke than the coal burners?

I have not. It depends on how hard the locomotive is working and how the fire in an oil burner is being managed. Ideally, there should be less smoke with an oil burner, in most cases.
