My degu, Fudge, hates being touched but im slowly teaching him to let me groom him like this. I find it best to bribe him with treats.

They can be quite shy for the first month or two, but with enough playing, he will trust you. To test if he trusts you, try giving him a massage on his belly.

Very cute and tiny. I'd love to hold and pet one in my hand.

They make adorable additions to a family. Just lost the second of my two girls after 8yrs of love, affection and the two of them demanding belly tickles.

Hi. Never got bitten once in the time my babies where with me. Definitely get at least two as they are very social creatures and thrive on companionship.

Hi Anna A Degu has a lifespan of 8yrs so far longer than a hamster. They are also active during the day (can’t mind the technical term for that). I have heard of aggressive Degus but that’s rare. All the ones I have had have been great in temperament and it’s funny to watch my four girls push/shove each other to get to me first when I get home. Get same sex pairs if you do go for these amazing creatures. And get a metal hutch for them as wood/plastic ones won’t last long. Keep me posted.

Try bribing her with her favorite treat. That helped my degu climb up on my arm all by himself.

i have 2 boy degus who ive had for about 4 months now. i was wondering when they will start letting me stroke them more. they already let me pick them up and they climb on me but they dont like being stroked.

Degus are not brushed tails rats Infact the are not even related to rats. They are related to chinchillas, squirrels and rabbits

Natalie D i think about getting some...im used to rat which i like very much but they all dies so soon as you know for a 'rat person' do you think they'll make good pets...do they run all the time or they like some lap time like a rat

Ragimund VonWallat I dunno if you got degus yet. But I am also a rat lover, for many years I've had them since I was a child. When getting a degu I was surprised at how much more they chew and poop. But cause of their diet of hay and degu pellets.. you'll find their poop is always a dry pellet making it much easier to clean. But they really do chew, far more than a rat. Mine are boys and degus are very vocal, so i noticed how much noisier they are straight away, so long as you ain't a worrier and understand animal nature you will have no trouble at all. But a degu is more like a exotic animal than a rat. They have strict diets and funny behaviour. Lol
