Most Cuban musicians study classical music. I was told once you learn classical you can play anything. Puerto Rican Richy Ray studied classical music and he is an amazing musician, I am 70 yo, was born in Oriente Cuba. I used to play Trumpet many years ago. Went to a pawn shop two years ago and purchased a Jupiter Trumpet, started learning back from scratch. I only have my right arm, it makes it difficult but not impossible. I am getting there, working on my endurance, i feel like a 40 yo. I want to get good so that I can get together with my Puerto Rican friends here in San Antonio Texas. Music is in my veins.
Smoking a cigar, listening to this music, drinking a good cognac. I think I don’t need anything more.

In the 1890s, ferries crossed back and forth between Havana and New Orleans. It's 700 miles, so this took a few days. On the ferries there were often Cuban bands -- playing "contradanza" -- while the New Orleans brass bands played what we now think of as early jazz. These two musics are deeply interwoven, and that's great for our ears.

Indeed, the great Dizzy Gillespie said once that of all music that has come from the Americas, the one that made the biggest impact on jazz was the Cuban music.

Finally somebody is recognizing the true history of what Creole and the mix of Cuba and a New Orleans the habanera ,danzon, danzonetta, and what was score of the French orchestra but you always have to include before that then huge migration of Spaniards from the Canary Islands not only for the cigar industry with the sugarcane

In the Caribbean there are a lot of examples of these 'fusions' . With 'these' i mean not only brass bands from New Orleans, but also the Big Bands from the US. But also different kinds of european influences. As mentioned by @Carlos Manuel Gonzalez the Spanjards, but also all other colonizers and traders. Chopin, for instance, was 'Hot' in the dutch colonies. This fusioned into Antillean Waltz, henceforth other styles came from this. Same for Argentinean Tango (spanjards). It becomes really interesting when the african, Creole influence got thrown into the mix. Samba de Raiz (brasil), Afro Cuban, Zouk(martinique and other post french colonies), Tropicana, Calypso, Bachata, and morre, so much more. Here is an old guy playing some kind of medley, Rumba, Calypso? what is it? kzread.info/dash/bejne/pYthy5Z8Z82dpNo.html
I am a geographer in Massachusetts, teaching a course about New Orleans as a Global City. This piece is how I start a presentation on New Orleans as a Latin American city in particular. Glad to see positive comments on this thread from all over the world.
Thank you Peter Martin here from Aalborg Denmark 🙏
This piece of music is a jazz masterpiece. I love the look on the faces of the musicians when the drummer plays his solo. I listen to this piece each and very day.

The prank family was here love the music very beautiful
