CSX Transportation Locomotive Yard Tour 1987 - Part 3

This video documents CSX Transportation locomotives sighted at various CSXT yards in December of 1987. This was our very first video ever recorded and you will see locomotives on location in Cayce, South Carolina, Charlotte, North Carolina, Clifton Forge, Virginia, as well as in Ronceverte, Rainelle, South Charleston, St. Albans, and Huntington, West Virginia. Take a good look at the Huntington portion of this video as we document one of the last 'mass' gatherings of pure Chessie System locomotives unrenumbered and in their original Chessie (C&O/B&O/WM) paint schemes. As Chessie began in September of 1972 so it ended in December of 1987 and as such concluded a fantastic 15 year run. Only a few unrenumbered Chessie units would survive into early 1988 as the major repainting into CSX colors really kicked in. If you like watching the early stages of CSX, then this video is for you.

Sad state where Clifton Forge is today! That special Amtrak movement is where my Dad hit the boulder on Christmas Eve night in the New River Gorge while on the Westbound Cardinal! It derailed the entire train but nothing on its side. I was stationed in West Berlin then and it made the Stars and Stripes newspaper. That was the rerailed train being towed back to wherever! South Charleston! Small and quaint yet many a day there as a kid. Always loved the bridge across tha Kanawha, the car shops in Elk, the single stall engine house. And the fact that in early to mid 70s nothing but Geep 7s or 9s working the yard! Great video!

Chessie System had one of the most striking paint schemes of that era. Still one of the best. Conrail was also great.
