CSX & Norfolk Southern Trains Passing Each Other, Me In The Middle! Abandoned RR Connector In Ohio!

Ойын-сауық

Trains Passing On Both Sides Of Me, Train Knocks Down The Signal & Abandoned Railroad Interchange Track. Norfolk Southern Railroad & CSX Trains In Carlisle, Ohio. Check Out The Graffiti On These Railroad Freight Cars! Fast Trains Booking Down The Toledo Sub! Steam locomotive running with caboose and passenger cars is included as a preview video from my Steam Trains playlist.
The video starts with a steam train ride in Lebanon, Ohio on the Lebanon Mason Monroe Railroad. See my recent video of it. After that we go to a railroad crossing with a CSX main line and two Norfolk Southern tracks. An intermodal train and a steel coils train pass the crossing northbound.
Next we see a southbound CSX grain train in a hurry on my left while a Norfolk Southern train appears on my right running northbound ( railroad east ). The NS train is a local switching freight train that had just completed its duties near Middletown and was returning to Dayton. The locomotive was running long hood forward which was pretty cool! That was awesome standing between two trains that were both booking!
Then we go about a mile south to catch a northbound CSX manifest with a DPU. This train had to wait on the previous CSX train to pass it so that explains why that train was in such a hurry. After that we take a quick look at an abandoned railroad track. There is still part of the switch with the derail in place and a long section of track that disappears into the brush. This line used to connect the ex Baltimore & Ohio Railroad line with the Detroit, Toledo & Ohio Railroad. Parts of the old DT&I still exist. There is a 5 mile section running northwest to Germantown, Ohio that serves one customer and a few miles run to the southeast to Franklin, Ohio to serve two customers and includes a street running section that I have filmed quite a few times.
The final train is a southbound intermodal train. It is heading to Queensgate Yard in Cincinnati.
Don't forget the pets and the slide show that comes from the video! Best frequencies in Carlisle are 160.980 for Norfolk Southern and 160.230 for CSX. End Of Train is 452.9375 and it does come in handy also unless a train is stopped nearby. Best frequency for LMMRR is 161.385
Filmed Saturday, August 5, 2023 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

    Jawtoorh. My name is Jeff Green. I am Greg from Buckeye Freight Railin's cousin. I live in Hanover, PA but, have been watching your channel for years. I am originally and still say home is Beavercreek, OH just outside of Dayton. I just want to say thank you for your videos. I am a railfan and love them. However, thanks even more for showing me pieces of home all of the time. I am supposedly going to meet you on Thursday. Very much looking forward it. Best Wishes!

    Regarding that steel train, it was probably B523, known as the Dearborn Special, going from Cliffs in Middletown up to the plant in Dearborn, MI. They also have B522, called the Middletown Special, going the other way. I don't understand why Cliffs sends some steel from one plant to another, in both directions, but I do find it interesting to see rail traffic that is directly connected to people who do work in our area (in contrast to trains that seem to be just passing through). They must be sending some form/type of steel down to Middletown to be processed, and then back to Dearborn to be further processed or sold, and vice versa.

  • @mrvanhorn

    @mrvanhorn

    10 ай бұрын

    @JawTooth, I just watched B522 headed south on the Deshler PTZ cam; it had many steel slabs on those blue cars, and a bunch of empty steel coil cars. Contrast that with B523 that you recorded headed north: empty slab cars and a bunch of steel coils. So, it seems like Cliffs is sending slabs to Middletown to have them turned into coils. I'm not sure why I had never paid attention to this before.

    That first CSX train had two locomotives at the head end and a DPU in the middle. Great shot coming around the curve. No flat spots on that steel coil train, sounded sweet and smooth. Cool train meet, long hood forward. I wonder what that 3rd CSX train was hauling, looked like all the same covered hoppers. Nice little bit of radio chatter as well. Nice shot of the auto racks/Locomotive up close. What was that hissing sound coming from those two Locomotives? I didn't see any sand being sprayed. Interesting. I'm pretty sure no one is going to miss any of that equipment on that unused rust track JT. I'm sure it would be ok if a piece went home with ya. All in all, fantastic video as always Son! I can understand the trains sounding their horn as they approach a road crossing, as a lot of them are ungated, but - apart from it being required - why do they sound while the loco is actually ON the crossing? Anyone that hasn't noticed and got out of the way is going to be firmly attached to the front of the loco! 🙂

    This very large graffiti “Yups Crew”, which no doubt refers to a TV series, occupies the entire side wall of a car and is a real eye-catcher! What's curious is that the graffiti doesn't cover the car's markings, as if it had been painted when the car was built. 🙄

  • @Stant123

    @Stant123

    10 ай бұрын

    Rail car taggers learned a long time ago that if they cover the car's markings, the car gets repainted. That info is there for a reason and needs to be visible. The taggers know that as long as they work around the info, the companies that own the cars won't repaint them, and their tags stay visible for much longer.

    @@Yungfoamer In the real world it makes perfect sense. The whole point of tagging is to have your name seen. Combine that with the fact that railroads are a for profit enterprise and maximizing profits is the name of the game, repainting cars is an expense that if it can be avoided, is avoided. The numbers/weights on the cars are important enough that if they get covered, the car needs to be repainted so the information is visibly available again. Soooooo, that means if a tagger paints everything except the numbers, the owner of the car has no immediate reason to repaint, thus maximizing profits, and the tag stays on the car much longer, thus being seen by more people. How does this NOT make sense?

    Yups Crew. Aren't those the guys that sort the packages for that big delivery service?? What a jump in the tape from a small steam locomotive to a double-stack Intermodal with DPUs. That Freight coming out of the siding you can see the sand flying on the second unit and with that hard-working dpu got it moving right along. Toss in the steel train and grain train and the viewing of the beasties and you're set for the day

    Had a look on Google Earth. I think that old track was just a spur that served the building there. Don't see any evidence that it connected to the other line. (still very cool though, love to think about what it might have been one day).

    If you go about a mile North, these 2 train lines run side by side!! Just follow that road to the first cross road, Farmington Rd. Turn right and about a mile you will cross them again. Side by side! Also, where you are parked, there is usually somebody getting on the train. I think they switch workers that live here locally.

    It's interesting the railroad removes the switch, but doesn't take up the rest of that track.

    Remove the liability and if the siding isn't reusable, probably cheaper to leave it especially if it'll end up back in service.

    A switch on the mainline requires maintenance, so leaving it in place costs money. The scrap value of old rail isn't a whole lot, so removing a siding costs money. In the UK, there's huge amounts of rail left around the network from when rails have been replaced, and the old rails just left by the side or sometimes even in the four-foot. I once spoke with somebody who'd gone to Network Rail and offered to use aerial photography and AI to locate all of this discarded rail so they could pick it up and scrap it. Network Rail's response was "Thanks but no thanks" -- it would have cost far more to retrieve the rail than its scrap value.

    I love stopping by Union Rd when I’m near Calisle! Always seems like the NS traffic happens during the day when I’m at work, but once in a while I get lucky and catch trains on both sides.

    Yeah, I can usually hear the local when I’m at work up by Moraine. It’ll be a good long while before I can stop showing up for work and chase trains instead. One can dream though!
