I just wanted to say thank you so much because i tried legit every reddit tutorial i could find and several youtube ones, they were all half assed and skipped a lot of steps that you didn't. you even made us use an auto update script every time we open the server which is really neat. I followed the guide and cannot find which step I went wrong on. I have everything setup like you do, and have the port forwards done. But when my friends try to connect they get a fail message. Any tips?

are they connecting thru console cmd? do you have firewall blocking inbound on that port (on your pc)? what error do they get? I haven't tried this yet but those are some steps to try

in the url of the workshop map you want to download copy the numbers at the end of the url. open console commads type: host_workshop_map + the numbers you copied. for example host_workshop_map 3125594858

My server doesn't appear in the community tabs under "Internet". It's a bit weird coz I used to have a csgo server before and it used to work perfectly... But at the same time I can see other servers under the "Internet" tab... Am I missing something? My friends are able to connect to the server by adding to favorites or by using connect command... But even they can't find the server listed under "Internet" in community servers list... Is 730 the right app id for generating the server token for Cs2 as well?

Valve still need to update and release the CS2 dedicated server, so for now we use 730 (the game's id) instead of 740. I would assume as soon as they are done patching up the 740 cs2 dedicated server they'll release it. This is all we have for now. And when they do i'll make sure to upload another video for that too :) This is the best we have for now.

they've gotten rid of sv_setsteamaccount in cs2 so you cant actually use the server token, afaik thats required to make the server public

Hello, how can you add plugins to your CS2 server? Do you need to install something beforehand? In CS:GO, I've seen Sourcemod and Metamod, but how can I install plugins on CS2?

Sourcemod and Metamod are not yet developed for Source 2 and are currently not compatible at all. TONS of work needs to be done to bring back the platforms. Right now it's still discussions of port everything as is, or recreate everything from scratch much like CS:GO to the CS2 code base.

Nice tutorial, thanks for making it! But in the Video you say you set a server password...and then you join the server. I've set up a running server on one of my other systems and everything works fine. Me and my friends can join it (through internet) and we can more or less play (more or less because of the still missing RCON function and different gamemodes we used to play in CS:GO) but: as soon as I set a server PW nobody is able to join my server. When trying to connect there's no possibility to enter the server PW. Do you have any idea how to fix that...or is it just another 'bug' in the CS2 files!? Any help would be appreciated.

set your server password (im gonna use "asd123" as a password example), and when your friends want to join they have to put the password in the console like this: connect yourIpAddress; password asd123 (or password "asd123" no clue which one, try both but this should fix your problem)

CS:GO works with friends without a workaround. Just join each others lobby and queue a map

You can run "map de_dust2" for example in the console to change the map at any time.

@@TroubleChute "map de_dust2" will just start a different local listening server. type "changelevel de_dust2" in the server cli. if u connected to ur server and want use the game console type "rcon changelevel de_dust2" (but rcon isnt working right atm when u connected ur server. but from the mainmenu rcon is working fine.

I have a windows server 2019 running on an old laptop and been hosting game servers on it for years, but i'm getting this when running the cs2.exe as you mentioned (downloaded through steamcmd: "Failed to initialize Steamworks SDK for gameserver. Could not determine Steam client install directory" It appears for a fraction of a second then closes.

I followed the guide and have been able to connect to my own server, which I can see in the server browser, but when I ask my friends if they can see the server in the steam server browser they say they cant see it. Any remedies to this issue? EDIT: they are able to connect to the server tho via the console, but I would like it to show on the server browser for them.

just made a VM server, downloaded steamcmd and did everything... looks like starting a cs2 serveer via PURE steamcmd is not even an option that is working at the moment... basically you need regular steam client and game before you can even start the cs2 server with steamcmd method...

Also a heads up if anyone is getting the error "Acces is denied". Just restart your computer and you should be fine.

I followed the guide (Used SteamCMD for dedicated server), after i install the game files from steamcmd (by start.bat), i can't start server, when i'm opening start.bat again, it just make a verification of files, and than window is automatically closed

i got it to work but having trouble adding more then 5 bots a team :(

i Fixed this by created a seperate config file. Right next to the server.cfg called something like "practice_config.cfg" and then changing the bat script to reflect this name.
