Crystals, Christians and the New Age: Three Thoughts

In this brief video, I talk about my thoughts about crystals as an ex-new ager. Are they okay for Christians to own? Do crystals actually have any power? As Christians, is there any reason we should or shouldn't have these? Many new agers attribute power and healing to certain gems and crystals. Does this mean they should be avoided at all costs?

I have collected rocks, crystals, etc. since I was a kid. I've never associated then with any sort of meta-physical properties and I cringe when I hear people try to explain how certain rocks have "vibrations" or "energies". 🙄 Why can't we just appreciate the beauty and wonder of God's creation!? You said it, Melissa...Worshipping the creation, not the creator.

really? some rocks do have vibrations and energy. They are useful. I mean its obvious and science can even prove it. There is beauty. God created the rocks. God even wanted Moses to speak to a rock. Go, get away from these channels, these people will spread their disease to you.

I spent awhile being curious what they say the metaphysical properties of crystals are, I just liked amassing knowledge. I never used them for purposes or channeling or ‘healing’ or anything like that. I’ve appreciated crystals since I was a child. My parents would take me to the science store and get me some. Anyway, God told me to throw them all out immediately when I was Born Again (I had a LOT of them, also He included throwing out all the sea glass I collected over the years except for one small piece as a reminder of God’s creations and what we do with them (in this case sand to glass)). I was allowed to keep the few crystals from my parents given to me as a young child before I ever started looking into anything about crystals.

My stepfather actively practiced various forms of witchcraft before being born again. One thing I remember him telling me about how he used crystals in witchcraft stuck with me. Be careful where any sort of crystal is from because demonic things can be attached to them. As someone who enjoys geology and finds it fascinating I have always gotten anything decorative or just fun to look at from shops that did not sell anything new age. Discernment is a very wise way to approach this. The last thing you want to do is invite the enemy into your house.

I make jewelry with gemstones sometimes because they are pretty and inexpensive, I know better not to attach significance to them whatsoever. Little did I know when she received them that she would. It was naïve on my part. She told me her parents gave her one made of whatever stone to help her anxiety. And that jasper was good as well. 🤦‍♀️ I felt like I was just reinforcing her delusional. Thank you for bringing up this topic! Before getting reconnected with the Lord, I had bought some crystals at a shop that sold all types of teas, crystals, and such. These shops are often disguised or dressed up as being a holistic or "all natural:" store/shop. I was initially drawn to the look and beauty of the crystals which is fine, but then the owner started telling me how different ones meant different things. She told me to tell her which ones I was drawn to first and she would be able to tell me what those crystals meant. Reflecting back on it now, her doing that reminds me of what we see with tarot cards when people go get "a reading". I don't think it's a coincidence, but those crystals have been misplaced for a couple months and I couldn't tell you where they are. I still think they are beautiful, but because they are often associated with new age beliefs, I am definitely more aware of how having these can be misleading into what I believe.

I've never been new age, but I will say that when looking at crystal and stone jewelry, if it is marketed as "healing", "protective", "balancing" or any otherwise mystical, I choose not to get those. I believe it is ok to have crystal and stone jewelry and I have some necklaces and bracelets that I love, but I wear them because they're pretty, not because I believe them to have any mystical property. However, if you were new age and had crystals and stones for their magical or mystical properties, I'm going to say you should probably toss those. Ultimately, that is between you and the Lord, so I'd give it lots of good study and prayer. Also, if you have come out of the new age deception and are struggling with this, please know that as your sister in Christ who has come out of other types of deception, I am praying for you daily. ❤️

Good presentation Melissa, I liked your practicality about these minerals and you note of caution for them not to be a stumbling block. l worked as a miner and saw at times amazingly beautiful crystalline minerals deep under the ground. I appreciated their beauty and mathematical precision as an example of God's handiwork and as a little glimpse of his majesty and ordered symmetry. I was surprised that people thought they had spiritual uses instead of just appreciating their beauty and industrial uses. I remember once seeing a wall of purple amethyst and golden hued chalcopyrite, what a sight over 4,500 feet under, but a few days later it was drilled, blasted and hauled to the ore passes. Amazing what comes with the correct mix of elements, chemistry, intense pressure and heat.

Ah yes, the moonstone. And the onyx ("black stones repel negative energy and protect the wearer from evil'')...oy! I remember those days and sometimes I cringe at myself! I still appreciate gemstones as a beautiful creation of God - but I praise the creator, not the creation. Actually, this is the premise for the jewelry I make now. I incorporate beautiful gemstones & also Israeli olive wood beads into Christian specific jewelery (crosses, fish, etc) to bring people into the truth that is Christ and as part of my ministry in warning others about the New Age. But I refuse to sell them in any store that promotes metaphysics ideology, or give them to people who I know will use them as a spiritual conduit. It is a tough line to balance for many but I have found I have had no desire or temptation to return to my prior use for them. Praise God!!

Thank you for this. I went to get a massage & after it was done, I seen a basket of crystal rocks & I thought that they were so pretty being that I used to collect rocks as a kid. Well, the therapist proceeds to sell them to me & explained their “healing powers” & how they keep “negative energy” coming to me whether that was thru people, my computer, etc. I bought them & then I felt bad because I just wanted them because they were pretty but I wrestled with this & then thought, this rock came from God & I bought it because of its beauty, nothing else. And, this video confirmed that for me, so thank you again.

Sister, hope you see this.... Just felt in my heart to let you know that you should write a book about all this stuff you are always preaching. I am not new the christian faith but I am new too learning about all these new age stuff word of faith crystals and everything pretty much you share on your channel. I have learned a lot from your channel and it would be a great resource if you were to write a book with all these topics! Well just wanted to share that with you! God Bless you and keep on fighting the good fight!

From Google: Quartz is a type of crystal used in watches, computers, and other devices to keep time. The quartz crystal vibrates or ticks an exact 60 seconds per minute when electricity is applied to it. The picture shows an example of a type of crystal you'll find in your computer.

I agree with your assessment. The only thing I would say in addition is that if the jewelry has occultic intent behind it, no Christian should really have them. Like a chakra necklace or the bag of stones that comes with a list of their "magical" properties.

She also says she uses the pages of the Bible to plug her menses. No joke. Beyoncé is definitely not who you think she is or who she used to be. Be careful there. My spirit physically rejects her videos and concerts (I used to be a fan and watch vocal compilations but since being saved I can’t.) it’s pretty well known what she is, and Jay z as well. I don’t say this to be mean, I feel ultimately she was a victim of the evil music industry. That verse I said is in the beginning of the lemonade video, and stay prayed up if you watch it 🙏

Totally agree Melissa..Crystals were a primary aspect of my healing work as a new age practitioner... if you're wearing a crystal, people will believe you're wearing it as an amulet . Christians need to carefully examine their intention for wanting to wear crystals or geodes. However I did keep *some* of my crystals and geodes because I think of God's beautiful creations but only after praying about it and blessing them in the name of the Father Son and Holy Spirit.. I no longer wear crystals or geodes... that includes the bracelets I had made with various stones as a medicine wheel bracelet... God had me cut the bracelet and rearrange the stones into a "resurrection" bracelet that goes from white stone beads to red earth to black and back to white again ☝️

Thank you for this clarification! I got into crystals for a bit, both for the aesthetic and the "healing properties," but then something didn't feel right in my heart about continuing to wear them. For me, it's probably best not to because my husband is a seeker (not believer in Christ yet but open) and so I don't want to confuse him by having it. He had some before too when I was into it. The way you described it is like how I feel about yoga. I've heard people say it's bad and should be avoided, but then I wondered why because for me, it's purely stretching and being present. Nothing to do with the culture or anything else. So I still do it just for those aspects.
