Just by trying, even just wanting, to be good means he’s not really evil. It’s sort of like mind control, the subliminal kind we saw with Jet in Avatar TLA. Brainwashed into believing and acting in a certain way, yet able to fight back against that programming. At least somewhat.

I love all the little details they included. Like the references to season 3 and 4 and Garmadon's dad jokes (they're just perfect okay). I also love that you can see that Wu missed him, I think that makes a lot of sense because they were pretty close before Garmadon "died" (it feels really weird to say that now lol). And I could totally see Garmadon having a green thumb!! It makes so much sense to me that he would love caring for plants, it just fits him. I think caring for Christofern was his way of coping with being estranged from Lloyd. He did not deserve to be treated the way Lloyd treated him, most of what Garmadon did was Harumi's fault anyway. She's the one Lloyd should be angry at, not Garmadon. I think Lloyd's really just taking everything out on him though because he mentions his human side not being weak, which is what Harumi was telling him (your human side is weak, your oni side is strong, blah blah blah) while Lloyd hung helplessly (again!!) in a cage. Plus Lloyd probably missed him just as much as Wu did, he did sorta leave without saying goodbye. It is sad that Lloyd was an absolute jerk to Garmadon in this season, but hey, people aren't perfect. Hopefully Lloyd properly repairs things later. Okay seriously though, wow. Garmadon is too good to be bad, look at what an amazing person he's been even with everything he's gone through. And my gosh, he's gone through a lot! Bit by an evil snake, turned into a dragon, then a human again, then into a snake, sent to the cursed realm (instead of Chen or someone else for some reason?), sent to the departed realm along with the preeminent... and then out of the blue he gets resurrected as an oni thing, basically starting all over again from where he was in season 1. Could he be just as traumatized as Lloyd? Absolutely! However, desipite all of that, he's always tried to be the best father/brother/person he can be. He ain't perfect either, but he's still awesome. Gotta love Garmadon. I hope we see more of him in 2023 (and maybe Kai gets the focus season he deserves). Side note, is it just me or does this guy cutting the plants look like Brad? 0:40

I personally hope Lloyd repairs things later. I like to point out that every time Garmadon takes a vow of 'non violence'/fighting, he ends up fighting to save his son or his family. His heart just truly isn't evil, and it felt quite bad to see Lloyd in 'rebellious teenager mode' and acting like a jerk towards his father who was trying to repair things and explain himself, whilst Lloyd was totally forgiving towards the person who had probably hurt him the most that season 💔 I hope Ninjago United does something about this 😔

Thank you for this. A LOT of Ninjago totally missed the whole character of garmadon and just branded him as unforgiving father which is totally untrue. They keep saying that Garmadon tried to kill his son in S2 when he isn't and just wanted to messed up his training so he won't become a green ninja and fight him. In fact, all of his attacks are directed only to the ninjas and not Lloyd. Everyone should also give him credit for enduring the evil rising through his veins for like THOUSANDS OF YEARS.

Garmadon is peak comedy 😂

I wish we had a better wrap-up with Garmadon and Lloyd here. Garmadon was trying his absolute best throughout the season and Lloyd was just so unbearable about it, like he'll give Harumi a chance (someone who was resisting change) but not Garmadon who was actively trying. Along with completely forgetting about Mystake and Garmadon in the earlier seasons, it was just hard to watch. Then there's just no satisfying conclusion or even talk at the end with Lloyd and his father about all this. I love Garmadon, he's always great and ends up defying the odds when it seems everything is stacked against him to make him evil. Lloyd was just so aggravating to me in this second part.

Agree. In fact, I was angry that Harumi got redeemed. I don't think she deserved that. Lloyd was far more forgiving to her, and despite that fact that this is all HER fault. She is the reason Garmadon was resurrected this way again. Yet Lloyd is resistant to doing the same for his father, even though he knows his father was good, and never would have chosen any of this. I thought that was a toxic message. I have my problems with this season, but Garmadon makes everything so much better, as normal.

Tbh, Garmadon in this season kinda frustrated me. Because there were multiple moments when I thought "does that imply what I think it implies" or "is this a reference?" but I didn't know whether the writers were doing that on purpose or not and whether it was with a purpose other that trolling. When Garmadon said "He was the only green in my life" I was like "wait... is the plant a metaphor for Lloyd!?" Then I realised that Garm swore off violence and broke his resolution as soon as he lost the plant, like it happened in season 3 with Lloyd. Seriously, are they parodying that plotpoint? The "green" quote also sounded really familiar I could've sworn Garm said it in Possession but I checked and turns out I was wrong. Still don't know why it sounds familiar. But I know that I get Deja vu sometimes when his tone of voice resembles Sensei Garmadon's or when he does something that vaguely resembles something he did in the past, exept he doesn't seem to notice the resemblance, because he conveniently only remembers what the plot wants him to, while I'm wondering whether the intention was to show him having subconscious memories and feelings he misaplies due to partial amnesia and his lack of humanity. Especially the "only green in my life" monologue sounds like something the old Garm would say about Lloyd in this situation. I can't be the only one who thinks that.

Yes, the plant is supposed to represent Lloyd. It was a very subtle move on the writers part, that most of the audience has missed. Garmadon denies it at the time when Nya calls him out on that. But that's just his defense mechanism. That's his character. The whole point is the plant represented Lloyd, and their relationship. He was sad when he thought the plant died, because it represented the death of their former loving relationship. I think the only reason why it was easier for Garmadon to show affection to the plant, was because it was safe. Lloyd was so angry at his father. It's hard to connect when someone is so angry, especially when you are riddled with guilt over it. He is. Garmadon I mean. They hint at this multiple times with things he says, facial expressions, sad music, etc. And each time Garmadon does try and show he cares about Lloyd, Lloyd just snaps at him. So again, the plant is just a safer thing. This is actually pretty basic psychology. Nothing is more painful than a rift between parent, and child.

You gotta understand that, Garmadon after he was resurrected in season 8 is NOT the original Garmadon we once knew from season 1 - 4. Remember that only his Oni side was revived, not his Dragon side. (His Dragon side is his good side, His Oni is evil.) The Oni masks corrupted that Oni part of him upon his resurrection, had they not corrupted him, he would’ve had some memories of his past life, and he would’ve been more passive. Since he was corrupted by the masks, a whole different being playing the mask of Garmadon was made. Think of it as and Evil version of Garmadon with no memories. He still has faint memories of his past life, but those memories rarely come by to him.

@@lloydsmints His dragon side was brought back. It just took a back seat to his oni side. Him being part dragon is why his oni form has wings.
