I met her tonight and said that this was my favorite song by her. She genuinely seemed flattered and told me that she thought the video was beautifully done. I am not normally starstruck, but she is such an icon.

me miss the 90s :( . so depressed. my dad bought the album for the main song but I discovered this when i was 9 (in 1994) was my favorite song while playing Sonic and Knuckles! lol the album is "story teller"

its on one of her albums, Story Teller. My dad bought the album when i was a kid for a song that was all over the radio. "pure love" but I at least went through the whole CD on my cd player for kids lol and discovered this song. it should of been on radio as well . so if you didnt have album many people missed by this song.

Nyro is loved and revered by all the music industry as one of its greatest ever talents. Love the song...also the video. So we live in the ghetto...let's have some fun anyway. The bit at 1.03, quite interesting. Black boys eating watermelon in delight. I seem to remember pro-slavery advocates presenting black people as simple folk that loved a bit of rest in the shade with a slice of watermelon as refreshment. Also, all of those postcards and book illustrations of the same thing from the 20th century, not to mention the minstrel shows. Where is the fried chicken, aka Birth Of A Nation? I'm amazed that few, if any, have raised a rumpus over this.

+TheMrCJist Seriously? I'm black and I grew up eating watermelon because it was a fun, healthy and cool summer treat. Ain't a damn thing wrong with eating watermelon.--that's only because white people used it to make fun of black people. I still eat watermelon to this day, so screw them. For some reason this song reminds me of Laura Nyro's "Stoned Soul Picnic" maybe that's where she sampled it from. Never heard of this song by Waters,though.

It's petty and unreasonable criticism of what is obviously quite innocent and harmless. What you said makes more sense: 'It's a hot day...watermelon...refreshing and cool'. And should we avoid doing things because bullies make fun of us because we do them? No, you stick it to them and just do it. The sample is indeed Stoned Soul Picnic, I know it by Fifth Dimension. Known of Crystal since she had her Gypsy Woman song in the charts, loved discovering her other stuff years later.
