Crystal Beach - Rare Footage - Closing Day

Ойын-сауық

On closing day of Crystal Beach, Ontario (1989) my father took footage of almost every attraction, back in the days when camera use on rides was must less regulated. This video contains a POV of The Comet, the Little Dipper, the Ferris Wheel, Laff in the Dark, and several other attractions. Enjoy!

Much of this park still exists however scattered (Comet is at Great Escape, the Ferris Wheel is on Toronto Island, ect). The big loss is Giant Coaster, which was one of the few side friction coasters remaining at the time of its closure.

I understand. We had a n amusement park here in Houston, Playland Park...closed in the late 60s/early 70s. My first roller coaster ride, Coaster...was terrified!...but I loved it!! I still miss the park and especially the coaster, even today. What do we have today?...nothing!! Why don't they build another amusement park?...too much crime in the city. Just have to cherish the memories.

In the later years , Sam and his crew installed the Comet's first two cars backwards so riders faced backwards and the trains last two cars forward to increase ridership.( As seen here in this video) PTC the ride designer and builder was consulted prior to this modification being made. PTC, Philladelphia Tobbogan Company, of USA.

Amusement Parks just don't have the same feel anymore, they're nothing but corporate cash grabs. Thanks for sharing this video, it brought back a lot of fond memories.

There was a sign that if anyone was caught jumping off , they would have to leave the park . I do no know if it was because I was little ,but man I had to run fast to get back on those cars .
