If you put those expensive cameras into the chamber in a steel box you may use a ~45° mirror right before the optics to make the opening on the steel case look 90° away from the source of explosion. That way the shrapnel can hit a cheap mirror but not the camera, while the setup maintains good visual quality. Object \ =========|| \ camera || \ =========||

Brass is composed partly of lead to make it more maleable when used as a plumbing part. If you are looking for explody, you want as low of lead as you can find. Most modern brass plumbing will be low lead due to new laws, but old scrap metal brass will probably have higher lead by comparison and not explode nearly as readily.

Hello again L and H. Thank you for doing such thoughtful and clear scientific videos. As you are planning to protect the camera, it seems time to try the following; take a brass cylinder and make tight fitting .5 cm thick brass covers for the ends. Braze the ends to the cylinder. Drill an 8 mm hole in the top. Make a steel plug to tightly fit in the 8mm hole. Now light your cutting oxy/acetylene torch and adjust it to a neutral flame. Rapidly tap the tip of said torch with your thick welding gloves, extinguishing the flame. Quickly stick the torch tip into the cylinder hole, give it about 5 seconds. Pull the tip out and plug the hole, close the torch valves and stow it away. Now, place the sealed cylinder in your press and crush it. It should make a nice pop. Good luck

Also consider hanging a sandbag or other heavy item from the bottom of the camera tripod to reduce the risk of tripod tipping over after a piece of metal hits it. Many tripods have a small hook for this kind of purpose.

Would be interesting (for me) if you did a pre and post compression Eureka vessel measurement for the solid bar to determine if there is actually any volume change. I guess there shouldn’t be any change in a lattice structure unless their are internal voids.

You should try using a magnetic base for the go pro on the crushing plate. Might keep it more stationary!

Nice to see you on motorcycles. My son & I ride motorcycles too. Ride safe. You were trying for window shattering experience from old video but this time you were ready but those look like duds. There are different brass metal so that one from the video could move brittle as it may have more other metals than copper & zinc so making it more brittle.

I would never have the guts to put that camera on the robot arm without a protective window in front of it!

You guys should really make an armor box for the bob arm and armored tripod boxes you can just mount right ontop of the tripod. Latch and lid to set the camper inside the box with a rigid, reinforced mount and maybe some kind of vibration absorption.

With a thermal camera, you could get interesting videos of how the temperatures change when the power increases :)
