A route I've done is to catch the eddy at river right, right next to the island, at the very top of the rapid, and then ferry out left facing upstream to pass just below Stadlers as you ride the large ridge wave above Phil's. Catching the eddy is actually easy albeit intimidating and the ferry is quite straightforward as the ridge wave surfs you across.

This was cool, I like the idea. I think a good idea for an educational video, would be the same basic thing you did here, but on a section of a river, what to look for , what to avoid and why, how to read the lines.

How about how to negotiate funny water generally. Where the current is going every which way, and it's not obvious what to do. For example, Sweet's Falls on the Upper Gauley, West Virginia. (Clay Wright is familiar with it) I hit it and hope, and flip about half the time, having really no idea what's happening down there. In this case, you just roll, but I'm sure there are cases where you really want to stay upright.

  • @SethAshworth

Some people say that but I’m not so sure. The line is one move, fairly straightforward. Admittedly you can get a bit thrashed in the hole but swimming their isn’t that bad/consequential. I guess you could say easy class 4 or class 3 consequences. Kind of depends on your scale. It’s hard to say.
