I should be mad about this but Funimation is horrible about digital copies. I got a digital copy of an anime and it was for the entire season but Funimation decided that I only owned a few random ep's from that season. I attempted to get help but all support did was say I did own the entire season which was unhelpful, so for now if I need a digital copy and I am too lazy to rip it from my copy the seven seas will be the way to go.

Those download codes were advertised as having a digital copy forever in case the physical copy is missing or damaged. There could be a legitimate case for false advertising here.

All video content, shows, movies, I have never trusted digital copies. Because it's got the worst DRM, it's locked to a single platform. I still buy CDs and DVDs, until they aren't available anymore. Because freedom.

Since neither Crunchyroll or Netflix is owned by any governments, they are _also_ private companies, just like Steam. Did you mean something else when you said "private company"?

Technically you're not buying a digital copy, it's a license and they can revoke it anytime they want for whatever reason. I haven't read their ToS but you probably agreed to it the moment you accepted their ToS, most if not all streaming service companies do that.

This makes me sad, because it's clear that whether you like or hate Funimation, it's definitely the end of an era that they were effectively shotgunned like this. People have the nerve to get irritated over stuff like "woke localizations" (keep in mind these are the same people who en masse tried to yell how Bridget in Guilty Gear being trans was a mistranslation until the devs themselves had to clarify it for them, so I don't know how much this is true), which while definitely a fair gripe, completely detracts from issues like this and the fact Funimation was fanatically anti-union, and Crunchyroll is a lot likely to be even worse. Maybe it's because I'm one of those boomers-in-spirit who grew up on VHS tapes for stuff like ADV Films, but it makes me sad that this is how it had to end. Make no mistake: this is NOT happening in a bubble. Corporations have no idea how to properly manage streaming platforms, and it's gonna get a LOT worse before it starts to get better.

Why hasn't anyone muttered a word about the INSANE ads they put every time you try to watch an episode of anything? I used Crunchyroll once back in 2019 when I didn't know any better and didn't know "illegal" streaming websites were a thing and they would play a 1 minute unskippable ad every single episode that you couldn't mute. I would just leave the site and wait it out and sometimes, if their pockets are feeling a bit too light they'd play TWO ads at the start and an ad at the ending. I literally had to time pausing the episode right at the end so I wouldn't have to watch a fucking ad. Why in God's good name are you people still using this?

A huge issue I have with Crunchyroll is that you still get the censored versions of anime’s with no option to watch them uncensored like Jojos Bizarre Adventure and you cannot watch any dub with every text like I wanted to watch Attack on Titan in German with English test since the show is clearly meant to be German and the clips in german I’ve seen are really good. There is a german dub on the second season, not the first season, with no English text even through they already have it for other dubs.

this doesnt effect me cuz i just watched all my anime on fan sites where the fan subs end up being better than CR or funi. I would love to hand 20 dollars or whatever a box set of blurays costs as long I know my money isnt going to terrible companies who tell me i cant watch something because its wrong and they have to change it for me because of culture or societal differences.

I tried using crunchyroll 'cos I read that I can watch anime without paying if I didn't mind ad breaks and stuff, so I though, oh yeah, let's try it out! Tried watching something, nope, not allowed to watch it. Ok, how about this one? Nope. These ones? Lol no
