Cruising in the Lost Classic of the 1960s, the Volvo P1800

Today we get to check out Phil Howard's 1965 Volvo P1800, one of the classic, yet often overlooked sleek, coupes of the 1960s. Phil's car has been restored with a few tasteful additions like wire wheels and custom luggage! A classic cruiser in black and chrome.

    Saw one of these yesterday when I was delivering in rural Oregon, absolutely mint condition and the owner told me it was all original. Couldn't believe the condition it was in, it looked like it had been 100% restored. Such a beautiful car

    Honestly one of the sexiest car of the 60s. I was a Volvo tech and got to see the 1,000,000 mile one. The estate is one of my dream cars but with a different engine. Seen a 327 in one. That red motor is a tractor engine. Keep the sump clean and your good forever.

    I've never owned a Volvo without seatbelts, and I have had models from '59 to 2000. Incidentally, Volvo introduced the first production three way seat belts in 1959.

  • @mikedeskins3305
    @mikedeskins33054 жыл бұрын

    When you reach for a seat belt it should be there. My 3 122S & '67 1800S Volvo's had them and my current '67 1800S has them all with the HD "lobster claw" that latches to the center ring that you could hitch a horse to. Volvo was known for the 3 point seatbelt. Very nice '65 1800S the P1800 was the Jensen built Volvo Gran Turismo.

    The chrome hockey stick trim was on all P1800, P1800S and 1800S(yes these are the correct size model designations for the P180 model) up to 1966, The cow horn bumpers ended at the start of the 1965 model year. The ‘64 in my opinion is the best of all, early chrome trim, grill, best interior and better made in Sweden. Yes they all had seatbelts and where I live this guys car wouldn’t be legal because it was supplied originally with three point belts.

    This restoration is very well done. We still have quite a few of these on the road here in Europe but indeed not many as daily driver. I'm not even sure it ever was ;-) The spirit of the P is still alive at Volvo today . A bit of the style went into the (never actually manufactured) concept coupé (www.volvocars.com/intl/cars/concepts/concept-coupe#gallery/c47ff3df493d47ee8e37910e8369a611) and these days into the somewhat larger Polestar 1 but nothing beats the "original".

    the bodywork is so perfect that the black paint is flowing like a glass, you render me a bit jaleous !!! In any color, the Volvo 1800 is my dream car. I've owned and repaired many volvos and the red block engine is always my favorite for its toughness and general long term reliability and the simplicity of its management system. To be honest, I hate FWD new Volvos as much i love the old RWD versions ( Amazon, 140, 160 and 240 series, 700 and 900 series at a less degree..)

    DAYAM! What a fine piece of art that doubles as a car! You're far too young and immature to remember the 1960's Roger Moore hit TV spy drama The Saint, but Simon Templar AKA The Saint, drove one of those cool Volvos!! Here's the actual car that Volvo acquired which is the Roger Moore "The Saint" car used in the series and owned by Moore. kzread.info/dash/bejne/op-q2Jttn7HXd5c.html This is something you'll dig bro, a video of a Corgi 1?64 scale Volvo being restored as The Saint 1963 Volvo P 1800. I've been restoring and customizing die cast for many years, and you might dig it! Buy a few die cast off E-Pay, an airbrush and an inexpensive generator. You can either fish around on line for replacement parts for just about any die cast you may want to restore or customize and get at her! If you need advice or help finding parts etc lemme know I'll gladly help you out. There were zero on line die cast retos when I started, but today there's loads of them! Do a search for your favorite TV or movie car die cast resto and you'll find several. A couple of my favorite KZread restorers are - Paul Youdelis at - "Fat Guy Productions" here's one of my favorite of Paul's customs kzread.info/dash/bejne/pICjsLOJpM7ZlMo.html&ab_channel=PaulYoudelis and Marty's Matchbox Makeovers - Marty is an awesome dude from down under! He's done tons of vintage Matchbox restoes and customs, and he produces his own tampoes and parts on his 3D printer. This is one of many favorites of mine that Marty's done. I actually have this model and haven't got around to restoring yet. It's a Matchbox Super King No K16 Dodge Tractor with Fruehauf Tippers 1966. kzread.info/dash/bejne/mIqmz7Kxhq6XnZs.html&ab_channel=Marty%27sMatchboxMakeovers There's a lot more great restorers and customizers out there. Some specialize in Hot Wheels, others Corgi, or Matchbox others Dinky etc. I like my diecast like my woman, I do them all! That was...in poor taste...and yet I went with it anyway...sigh. You're a model builder, I bet you'd love this hobby brosephus! Get er done!! I have an extensive vintage die cast car collection and one of my prized vintage die cast is the 1/24 scale Corgi Saint Volvo. A super cool car!! Great video brohamus!
