As a card-carrying member of the ‘old persons group’, I DO want to point out that this couple (ages 84 & 81) dealt with their dilemma of arriving back too late, rejoining their ship at the next port WITHOUT obnoxious, public whining ‘oh-poor-us, we-got-left-as-we-were-delayed-NCL- SHOULD-have-waited-for-our-entitled-asses!! This older couple handled their problem with calm and class. 👍 old people!

I don't see why people keep blaming the cruise lines for leaving people behind. They have to maintain a schedule and thousands of other people are on time. There are plenty of notices about this during the cruise. People need to take responsibility. Do airlines hold up for late passengers? NO.

Thousands managed to get back to the ship on time. I dont feel sorry for anyone missing the ship. Especially if they go on the news to try to get sympathy and guilt the cruiseline for their own fault. I have zero respect for that behavior. It's disingenuous.

Rule that ship won’t wait for you if not on their excursions applies to Everyone regardless of age. Same as last time with those Africa passengers. Both went on their own and both are reported as somehow it’s NCLs fault as the ship left these poor passengers behind.

Doug, are you aware Lindblad (LIND) is publicly traded? Granted their market cap is only about $400 million, but Viking now makes five publicly traded cruise companies. Six if you count Disney, although DCL is still a small part of Disney as a whole.

Pushing on up in age myself, it is no excuse. You don't hear of it happening too often because in general the older you get the more cautious you are about cutting things like time close. You mostly hear of this with a medical emergency. And if they are as wise as they are old, they would have contingency plans and insurance to cover that possibility.

I'll never look at NCL again without thinking of your new name for them.

Never be late have passengers learned nothing. That's why there's a all aboard time. They think because they never came back late before they should of waited. It's they own fault.

Mornin' Doug! "Never Come Late"! I love it! Bummer to have folks missing the ship but Murphy's Law doesn't give cruisers a pass and we all need to plan for that. Glad to see NCL in the green, although I'm certainly less thrilled about the experience reductions and on-board spending pushes it took to get there.

They learned lesson. They should book cruise line's own excursion touring. Not private excursion touring unless early in morning for two hour tours. Cruise line don't want to pay dock fee extra for late sailing.

Don't forget they have pilots aboard. I don't know if they charge cruise line extra for late sailing from the dock.

If you are elderly and you don't take an excursion through the cruise line, if you know that you are slower or you have a disabilities, start back earlier to the ship than others!!!!

Sorry to point this out Doug, but the price you quoted for Royal Caribbean wasn't the price on the screen. We're Royal stock holders are we're curious which was right.

This is not news. The cruiselines make it very clear that you have to be back on time. It doesn’t matter if you’re experienced cruisers, if you’ve never been late before, if you’re 8.5 or 85, if the ship set sail 90 minutes late on embarkation day or any other say. Late is late. This couple speaks English. They have the wherewithal to go out on an independent excursion on their own and without their younger family members. What part of “All Aboard at 5:30pm” was not clear? The cruise line is not responsible for assisting if you’re not on a cruiseline-sponsored excursion. People need to stop pissin’ and moanin’ and accept responsibility for being late.

I see no reason to ever sail NCL. They booked that family vacation last year then wouldn’t let them board the ship or meet the ship at the next stop. Didn’t give them any money back. When they booked the flights for them. Now they’re just leaving travelers. How long do they wait for the passengers. Plus I hear they pressure sales pitch you the moment you board the ship. Hardly nothing is included and everything is pricy!

I'm on NCL's side in this instance. Being older doesn't give you an excuse. That being said, I won't sail them again for other reasons - too much nickel & diming, etc.
