Great video. First cruise for us coming up. My thought on the added tips, I prepaid for it for budgeting and don’t have to worry about the cost at the end of the trip. One thought on the video. Is the end was really quick and I thought maybe apart of the video was cut off. If that’s not the case, I would recommend have a wrap up or small join me next time message at the end of the video to help the flow.

Bring some small bill cash. an extra 5 or 10 bucks isn't going to forfeit your kids from entering college.

@@JoeinWashDC I was just talking about the set daily billed gratuities that they bill at end of your cruise. We prepaid those. Still going to bring cash to tip extra if we feel the service is amazing. No worries, no kids to worry about sending to college here.

I tip over but Im also scaling back bc once I add in the prepaid, specialty dining and drink package tips, it's a lot. Therefore, I bring a little extra for the cabin steward and some $ for drinks.

One can not drink enough booze each day to make the drinks package worth it by the end of the trip.

I hate this tipping culture. Just pay your workers a decent wage.

Pre paying locks in the amount. If you wait, you are subject to price increases.

Can you remove gratuities at the guest service kiosk? Do you have a video on what all you can do at the kiosk?

Some people cannot afford to tip but they do pay there gratuity , and to be honest you do not even have to pay that (but I do think you should) But If your paying your gratuity, I see no problem if you cannot afford to pay extra tips, for some a cruise is a once in a lifetime experience I know many more people are in the lower income level then the higher. And any employee knows what there wage is and whats expected from there job as well as not eveytime will there be tips or bonuses, and they choose if they are going to work for that employer. I say tip what you can and enjoy your trip, and if you can tip more and want to please do, but do not judge others from your life view point because not everyones life view point is the same. And really what bussiness is it of anyones what another person is tipping or not tipping stay in your lane

The cruise lines cause all of this grief by not paying their employees a fair wage. Why do they do this? It gives them the ability to advertise super low fares to get bookings. Then they nickel and dime you to death for literally everything, even water. Pay your staff a living wage and stop forcing them to live off the gratuity scam.

"all this grief"? If 100 bucks tipping causes you all this grief, you should make alternative holiday plans. If my holiday costs are around $4,000 for plane and ship etc......If 100 bucks is considered a nickel and dime you to death issue for you...that is quite sad.

@@JoeinWashDC You completely missed the point. It's not about how much the tip is compared to the cost of the cruise. It's not about whether trips are deserved or not. If you actually cruise and follow the industry you would know the gratuity situation is a hot potato issue. The point is cruise lines nickel and dime their passengers and it is a point of contention with most cruisers. That is in addition to adding on automatic gratuities. If they actually posted the "real" cost with everything included getting bookings would be much more difficult. The point is cruise lines do not pay their crews a living wage and push some of the cost onto the passengers in the form of gratuities. Pay your crew fairly by including their real and fair salary in the cruise fare and stop all of the controversy over automatic gratuities.

@@garyjarvis2730 I've sailed 10 times and it's only on Cunard. I would think once you've done your first sailing, no matter what cruise line, you know the tipping situation. It's only a hot potato issue if one wants to dwell on it after your first sailing.

I do not spend any time worrying about gratuities but I do know there are huge swaths of the market that do. Again, the real issue is getting the cruise lines to pay their crew properly and publish realistic rates without all the hidden addons that come with low fares. You sail Cunard, I sail Viking so we fall into a demographic that really isn't affected by the issue. However, the budget minded cruiser is more sensitive to the concept and they routinely get confronted with the $1750 fare getting inflated by on board addons (for everything) to $2800 at the end of the voyage. It's the surprise invoice at the end of the journey that invokes the bad feelings. It's the same feeling you get when buying a car and find out the ad price the dealer posts is off by about 8K when all is said and done.

If you can't tip, then don't cruise. The staff on ships work very hard and are not paid well. They rely on tips. You can tell this women is a "business professor". Those who know, do, those who don't, teach! She contradicts herself in this video about prepaying or not prepaying gratuities. On top of that she leaves $60 for three people for her room steward. Big spender. LOL I bet her cabin is a disaster every day because here entitled children make a mess and think they are better than the staff who will clean it up. The problem with KZread is it gives someone like this a voice and unfortunately some will follow her advice.
