Croydon was a front line fighter station during the Battle of Britain, operating from the grass and not the tarmac run way that remains with the original control tower of the earlier civilian airport. The part that was the Battle of Britain airfield, like most of the British heritage, is now under a housing estate.

There are the John Fisher playing fields where I used to freeze my arse off in mid winter playing rugby or worse doing cross country running back in the late 60s- early 70s! Lol!
