It's packed right now because Southern California residents can get 3 day passes(weekdays only) for $75 a day and kids are only $50. Disneyland has been doing the resident passes for years now to fill the park in what used to be the slow time of the year. They do it again for all California residents at the end of summer and the beginning of fall.

Consider these two scenarios: If you make a reservation as a magic key holder, you have two options-either cancel it or attend. If, for some reason, you can’t go on the date of your reservation, you either attend or receive a strike. If you miss two more reservations within 90 days of the first one, you’ll be locked out of Disneyland for a month. This situation creates unnecessary pressure because it forces people to attend the park, risking being blocked out for a month on a very date-restricted and expensive annual pass. Moreover, people are inclined to stay the entire day at Disneyland because they don’t know when they’ll get another reservation. With the scarcity of reservations, visitors feel compelled to stay longer than before, leading to overcrowding. The issue lies with annual passes and reservations, as they promote the unnecessary feeling of needing to stay at the park longer, either to secure a reservation or to avoid punishment for non-attendance. In my opinion, without a reservation system, we could return to normalcy, where the park wasn’t busy all year long. I can say this based on my experience being both a pre pandemic pass holder and a post pandemic magic key holder.
I've never known anyone that actually loves crowds at Disneyland. No one wants to wait 60- 90+ minutes for a ride ??😵💫

David's expressed his love for crowds in the past, and I think it's because he has the luxury of visiting the parks multiple times per week. It's easy to shake off 90 minute waits and see the crowds as a positive for Disneyland when you can hop on a ride or two, grab a bite, and come back two days later. When this trip is your one trip to Disneyland every year or two, however, it's an insane pill to swallow and a miserable experience to have to endure.

I’ll be there next week as well, I went yesterday Friday night after 8pm for a date night with hubs. Stupid busy in downtown and inside the parks. Elbow rubbing, shoulder bumping, shoes tapping crowded. No thank you! Also they did sell magic keys this past Tuesday guys so keep that in mind. Space mountain had a 65 min wait time well past 11:45 pm. Matterhorn 35 min. Thunder 30 min. Busy busy Friday night.

RE: Peter Pan: We rode Peter Pan on Friday 3/8. The posted time said 60. We waited over an hour. The normal queue line was not full. But there was a massive amount of people lined up at the exit. Without them, we figured we could have made it through in 40-45 minutes or less.
We were in Disneyland on Monday (and saw you near Small World 😊). The crowds were INSANE!!!!!
I love your analysis and commentary on park operations. Excellent reporting
Appreciate you so much, David. Thank you for your diligence and dedication.
These crowds and the crowds in all of David's recent state of DL and DCA reports, are really making me re-think our plans to go in mid November this year. We were there for 4 days the week after Thanksgiving in 2022 and the parks were busy but not insane like this, especially considering it was Holiday Time then. This video is from a random Monday in March, and while I understand Monday's have become like another weekend day, this is just absurd. I don't understand how anyone would think this was a fun or enjoyable day. The amount of rides and attractions you can experience on a day like this compared to the days when the park wasn't packed to the gills is just not comparable. Even with Lightning Lane (which we always buy as out of towners who only go once a year on average) this would still, IMHO be awful. Every ride David passed had an obscene wait and the congestion and mass swarms of people just getting from place to place is anxiety producing. Not to mention the hassle of mobile order and just trying to find a place to sit with your family if you aren't doing a table service reservation. I love Disneyland, but not like this. I know Disney is loving these attendance numbers and clearly there are more than enough people who don't mind this kind of Disney experience, but this is a hard pass for me. Thanks, as always, David for the great content!
A lot of schools here in Az are on their springs breaks these next few weeks. When I was able to afford it, we went every year for spring break. Youll notice the same thing during the first couple weeks of October when fall breaks are happening here in Az.
I was at Disneyland this past week and the crowds were insane. Lots of technical issues with rides as well. And sadly tons of very unfriendly people, not just other guests, but cast members too. I flew in from Ohio to visit Disneyland and it was an absolutely horrible experience. I will not return, but maybe that is the point and they are trying to get rid of customers. So disappointed that I wasted my money and vacation time on this trip.
Great to see you, David!
At DCA now. Probably last time it's so bad. And half of all the big rides were closed half the day. First time I've been angry at Disney.
I love your attitude. Thank you for all the great videos!
My family and i were there Monday, DCA Tuesday, DL on Wednesday. We were pretty shocked at how busy it was. Monday in Disneyland was still fun. DCA on Tuesday was a pretty negative experience. We really struggled to get onto rides because of wait times (excepting Grizzley) and ride closures. Even on Wednesday afternoon in Disneyland with the rain, lines were long and rides were bouncing up and down with closures. The kids still loved the trip overall, but the adults were universally pretty disappointed and somewhat frustrated. We've been going more-or-less annually for the last decade, from Utah, and this was easily our least favorite trip. I came away blaming lighting lanes. They must be making ride lines 1/3 longer. And for my family, it's just cost prohibitive to pay that much. It's especially a bummer thinking back on how fun Fast Passes were, going to such a negative experience with LL.
The park was busy from March 4-9th because MANY schools in Calif have Ski Week! Any time the school are out, the parks are busy!
I was just there last week. It was busy, but the lines in this video were definitely bursting at the seams! Some schools are on Spring Break, so that's a possible factor as well. 😵💫

Don’t want to sound negative. Watched for years. Love Disney and your content. Going next week. But I would love some other content. Tips, tricks, etc. every time I tune in now it’s construction update or a walk through to look at wait times and how they are not accurate. Maybe it’s just me. holy crap! thats busy... like summer time busy. I think its the kids tickets.
We were there on Monday and it was crazy!! But we went to DCA on Tuesday and it was much worse. We waited 3 hrs for radiator racers. When we got in line it was only 75 mins an we waited a total of 120 mins. I broke down once a they were prioritizing lighting lane. However we finally asked because the lines were so long and they were taking 10 parties per lighting lane to one party for stand by! We go to Disneyland about every other year an I have never seen it as bad as it was. We missed so much because the lines were so long. And if a wait time said 40-45 mins so we’d get in line an then after 15 mins or so it would jump to 60-70 min wait. It was absolute madness

What changed? Four big things can be pointed to off the top of my head: 1)Population increases: Disneyland had been getting more crowded every year for a long time. 4 of the 5 times they had to stop admitting guests due to overcrowding were in the 3 years before the pandemic forced the park to close. Reports are that the total visitors are only around 90% of 2019 numbers, though, so the others are likely more impactful. 2)Staffing issues: Chapek gutted the maintenance staff and then the pandemic layoff dropped more than 1/4 of the Disneyland resort employees. Post-pandemic, companies everywhere have had a hard time getting staff to work for them, Disney included. These things have lead to an increase in ride breakdowns and slower overall service, which results in more congestion in the parks. 3)The reservation system: This is probably the reason why there are no more off days. The system has been used to heavily restrict Magic Key owners from visiting on the normally busy days, forcing many of them to go on off days or not all. It also works as a hard sell and FOMO driver for people on the fence about going, since once reservations start to fill up, the calendar leaves guests picking the "least bad" day to go instead of the ones they would prefer. Once reserved, people are mostly locked into going on their reserved date, since, even though cancellations are allowed, rescheduling is subject to reservation availability. This has drastically reduced the number of people who went to the parks for only a couple hours before leaving(this was the kind of visitor the Annual Pass was originally designed for when unlimited-ride admissions replaced the admissions and ride tickets: the visitor who only came in for a meal, some shopping, or to people watch and might occasionally spring for a ticket to an attraction) and has led to people staying much longer in the parks on their now harder-to-schedule trips, keeping the parks more crowded per daily visitor than before. If all the Magic Key holders now spending more time in the parks and are being driven by FOMO to schedule more trips each, then even with less Magic Keys sold than before, the parks are going to be more crowded. 4)The Lightning Lane rework of the FastPass system: The FastPass system was designed to reduce total time spent in queues. The number of return times was set low enough to keep standby queues flowing while keeping the Fastpass queue targeted at a 5 minute wait, rarely exceeding 10 minutes. The result was that the _average_ guest saved between 10 minutes and an hour of queue time per day (averaged over number of rides) that could be spent on other things in the park, while only those who never used it spent an increased time in queues. This was immensely profitable for Disney since often that extra time was spent shopping and Disney spent years tweaking the system to be most effective. Then they decided to rename it, sell it exclusively for an additional fee, and set the price low to encourage more sales. And it sold so much that it ran out of return times so early that some purchasers couldn't use it and cried foul. So instead of doing the smart thing and limit the number of sales, Disney cranked up the number of return times and broke the queues the exact same way they did in Florida with FastPass+. Instead of being usually a near-walk-on, the way the FastPass queue was, Lightning Lanes are now the frequently 15+ minute long queue that guests have to pay to get into next to the now-excruciatingly-slow standby queue they are punished with for not both buying the service and devoting a lot of time and attention to using the service instead of shopping or enjoying the park. The standby queues became longer, spilling out deeper into the park and staying out there for longer instead of shrinking like they used to once a surge ended, and the Lightning Lane queues, which weren't designed to ever get that long now also have to managed as they spill out into the park where they shouldn't since the system is now scheduling too many of them to arrive at the ride at the same time all adding to the visible congestion, even after a massive expansion added capacity and Project Stardust was undertaken to ease congestion.

the more i see crowds like this the more i am grateful to have so many memories of "off season" days back in the mid 80s through early 90s. we will never see times like that again and it's sad. i think some of the problem is disney taking away "group experience attractions" such as mission to mars, country bear jamboree, circle vision, and america sings which could handle 60-70 guests or more per cycle, and replace them with slow loading vehicle attractions,or in the case of mission to mars a mediocre pizza place, and america sings with nothing of worth. then of course there's the missing peoplemover which was in constant motion, and cycled countless guest per hour. i haven't been back to the park since the re-opening after the pandemic (after being an AP for over 30 years),and i'm not likely to go back on a regular basis ever again. maybe a one day visit, but i'm even skeptical of that. it just doesn't appeal to me anymore. i'm more in a "been there, done that" state of mind when it comes to disneyland. they've just made it too difficult to enjoy what was once a wonderful place to visit, but has become chaotic and miserable.

Would have loved to have said hi, I’m a huge fan and love your content and your family! I have a little one who’s also named Sofia.
It’s too pack I’m here now !!! 3/8/24
What do you do? 1) You go anyway you wait 2) ya buy the lightning lane 3) you realize you forgot what a real full park looks like (80,000?) 4) you go shopping and eating until everybody’s at the parade then you go on your favorite rides… skip the fireworks and parade 5) you realize the Southern California children are almost ready to be out of school during Easter vacation but everybody thought they’d come a week or two early to beat the crowds and it didn’t work. LoL
amazing video, as always. i’ll be there solo 3/20-21 after a work trip and so not look forward to those crowds. 😳 however, i can’t pass up an opportunity to visit walt’s park. question: at around minute 40 you said “what used to be the tangled tower.” is that not still there??!
Nice to see Disneyland back on it's feet.
The Pirates/NOS area is really difficult for people on mobility scooters to navigate. If you’re in NOS, you can’t go down steps, so you have to go all the way back to the entrance of Pirates in order to get to the lower level. And the crowds are nuts. Bad planning for accessibility needs.
Mondays fell like the most crowded day recently
I never remember Pirate’s having such a long line all the time. It consistently takes over New Orleans square, and I hate that. New Orlean’s was my favorite area of the park and now it’s just a glorified pirate’s queue. What happened?

Right?! The insane lines really take away from the ambiance of the park when they are constantly spilling out into the walkways and common areas. In the many years prior, I don't remember the Pirates queue ever going outside of Pirate's proper entrance (under the bridge) now in all of these state of DL reports, and the last time I was there, the line is always at least on the bridge which makes walking through New Orleans Square a real pain. Same with Haunted Mansion. Will be interested to see if the new HM queue can contain all the guests so there isn't the same spill over issue.
Gorgeous weather though
The park can’t handle spring break crowds with two rides like haunted mansion and splash mt down. Those rides are people eaters.

And there lies the problem to much modification at one time
At one point around 7 on that monday, I tried to get into the lighting lane, the queue was full, and there was a 50+ person line outside the lighting lane. I could stay, but I would bet the all line was close to 40 min
⚜️🎭Did someone say ‘logistic - nightmare’ 🤣🍦🥤
We used to be tatooine sunset die hard fans, but recently had a moof juice from docking bay seven. Our new favorite drink in Batuu.
I have the cali pass and only go Tuesdays. It's already crowded but can't imagine weekends. When I get home from Disney I'm a mess. 😢
I just booked a Disneyland Hotel and park hopper tickets for September 2024 and the reservation system is all blocked out, I have a message in my itinerary that I can’t make reservations until after March 15th for my package.

That's because it only books 180 days in advance. The hotels and the parks are run by different computer systems with different rules. You'd think they could have put a 1.5 year shutdown to good use and used all that downtime to do some much needed maintenance, integrate their hotel and park computer systems for reservations and both improve the guest experience and make their services more efficient, but they chose to fire a bunch a people, crank up prices, offer less to the guests and give their chief executives retroactive $10+ billion bonuses instead.
I cherish your joy to be in a super crowded park, but this crowd is not fun. It’s obscene! Sorry! Thank you for your videos. They are my Disney outside of Disney.
That week is also College and Universities spring break in a lot of places. Maybe that's why? Or a combo of the kids ticket and spring break?
Saw you that day as you were filming at harbour. Didn't want to interrupt you, but man it was busy this day indeed
Remember people, EASTER IS “THIS MARCH 31st” and kids are on Spring Break probably.
Wednesday the 6th was absolutely ridiculous on how packed it was especially in the rain.
Looking like 6 flags nowadays… 2 major attractions under construction at the same time. Queues out on the major walk ways. This is not what Disneyland should look like.
Know you love to see the park busy but for people who can only afford to go once a year or even less the day you just experienced is a huge disappointment for us- it’s hard to spend that much money and stand in line for so much of the day. I actually like them regulating the numbers so we can actually get on the rides without waiting in line so long.
Beautiful✨ wows Dinseylamd
Days like that are why the Reservation System SHOULD exist. Tickets are too expensive to to have your day ruined by poor capacity management.
Spring break has started gor us as well. There are probably a lot of families heading down.
David, it’s like a home kitchen remodel to be endured in the HM walls and pirates line situation and diversion modes. Time to live out of applesauce cups and pbj sandwiches. ;). Brave on.
I love your state of Disneyland videos! Beautiful day ☀️
..HA....if Dumbo went that fast, I'd even ride it!!
Great shot of you walking down Main St with the horse drawn streetcar following you! Classic and awesome.😊🔥
Where was early entry on this particular day?
I just got back from 4 days in Disneyland and yes it was crazy busy. It’s still my favorite vacation spot and now a Magic Key holder. 🎉

is it worth it
I am sure since that was the last week for kids 50 dollar tickets played a big role. Thanks so much for all of your content!
