It was May 2023. Really, it was a month to soon. The high mountains don't open while June.

I was on the western side entering Spain from Biarritz.. that was in 1980 or 1979 - can't remember which now... we stopped at a cafe in the clouds (in the days of GB plates) and was told I was the first British bike they had seen there... there were cattle at the side of the road and cutting grass with a scythe..
