Border crossings and tunnels. That ticks two of my boxes. Great video!

Nice video, reminds me of my Interrail adventure in 1990 to France and Italy, when I just turned 18 years old 😊

Thanks Frank - though your message took me by surprise, as I was sure I'd scheduled this video to go live at 1600 GMT, not at midnight! I still use Interrail tickets regularly - there's no age limit and they are still valid in the UK. There are a lot of misconceptions about Interrail for some reason. I may use one to go to Germany for the European Football Championships (plans at an early stage!).

Happy Christmas Clive! What a nice place to be and out of Storm Pia's wrath. Judging from the early hour when the video began, I hope it doesn't cross a borderline to say it's certainly not boring, as you board a train to cross the border from where you were boarding, then not reboarding to recross the border. 😁Or more simply, nice video! 🎄🎄🎄

Thanks for your comment, which is appreciated. It was windy here today - but I drove down to Figueres where it briefly hit 24c - a heatwave!

I need to correct myself - in Argentina and Chile, it's a mixture of standard and broad guage (the railways were laid down originally by the British, as in India, etc). However, in Brasil (which I am more used to), it's broad guage, and today mostly only commuter lines anyway. The British at least left a legacy of railway infrastructure, and my Indian friends tell me that a rail tour of the country should be the number one thing to do for any tourist venturing to that part of the world. There are climatic and infrastructure problems for all countries in more hot climates, where rainfall is heavier than in Europe (obviously, unless it's a dessert). In Amazonia, even roads aren't much use, let alone Rail lines.

I stayed in La Masia back in 2010(ish) after the lines were down and all trains stopped at the border. Spent the night in Riky’s Bar (sic) before negotiating the steps from hell, with luggage, the next morning accompanied by the hangover from hell. The childish spat between RENFE and SNCF is getting beyond a joke now. Somebody needs to bash their heads together and hopefully the outcome will be a decent cross-border service. Nice vid by the way, with some unusual footage.

Does the local RENFE train going into France use the same standard guage track, and in Spain do the trains drive on the left (like in France).?? I have never been to Spain, but in South America of-course broad guage is used - - - Probably the world's best rail travel bargains, but don't use a foreign (e.g. British) package tour - you'll be paying many times more than the price you would pay if using local pesos. Even hotels, the same - way, way more cheap.!

I explained in my film that one track in the tunnel is Spanish gauge (also called Iberian), and the other is standard gauge. They are both effectively single-track branch lines, with no physical connection. Until a few years ago there was a Montpellier-Cartagena service that went this way, and there was a gauge-changing facility at Port Bou it passed through so they could adjust the gauge of the wheels. In Spain trains roll on the right. The high speed link across the border (Perpignan-Figueres via La Jonquera) has a flyover for one of the tracks so they can switch from one system to the other without stopping.

TER fares are ridiculously cheap, aren't they, in France.? In many departments, you just pay 1 euro on the bus to go anywhere in the department, and I believe certain rail lines are also absurdly cheap (compared to Britain).

To be honest in recent years I've shown more interest in non-league football (still known as Junior Football), mainly the West of Scotland League. My films on here of Troon, Auchinleck and New Cumnock include coverage of the football grounds.
