From the other KZreadrs, dirtymotorcyclevagabond and scotter tramp scotty that are always going in and out of mexico i know that the TIP cost depends on the value of the bike. The older the bike the less it cost. Thank you for sharing a list of everything you need for if i never get the chance to go.

That’s one heck of a process to get across the border!! Seems like they could streamline it just a bit…..

I have a dr650. I want a super tenere for long road trips. My only fear is being able to pick it up if I drop it. I’m 60 years old.😂

What happens if you don’t stop at that building to “check in” ?

They have snipers on top of the border crossing building, they take you out if you don’t turn around. That’s a good question, I’m not really sure. They never checked my paper work at any of the military checkpoints. I did have to show the TIP paperwork at the ferry terminal to get on the ship.

okay. When you come to Mexico you must have your passport, your ID, your driver's license and the property title (note: in some procedures they ask for the original document but maybe you don't want to run the risk of losing that document, so you can ask for a copy verified before a notary public in your country and insurance. I recommend having two simple copies of each document... Remember that you must complete the customs procedure before crossing into Mexico or you will have to return to the United States and if the agents get annoying they can say that you brought the motorcycle illegally into Mexico... Always remember to have copies of your documents, generally two copies are requested and the original document to verify that the data is real (a notarized copy legally works as an original), a simple copy for the file and a copy for the archive. Officials regularly do not make copies in their offices because there are thousands of them and they would destroy the allocated budget. and that's it.

No not many at all. It was quick, check in went fine.

It's way cheaper to fly to Mexico buy a bike and give it away when you come back home, A new bike at the store is max 1700 bucks Canadian including plates, insurance is not needed as you won't get a claim anyway it a scam from Mexico, give the bike away to a student they need the bike, have them meet you at the airport to give them the bike when your leaving the country, same goes for western euro countries

I’m not sure what you are talking about with the insurance. I was involved with another vehicle “small pickup” in an accident in La Paz. I was at fault, insurance agents from mine and other drivers came to the scene and took photos/info from both parties. The insurance I had ended up covering some major damage to the truck I hit.
