CrossFit Athletes Try to Keep Up with a Professional Ballerina | SELF

CrossFit athletes are tough-but ballet is tougher. When one dances, one must have the stamina for the body to keep up, and the grace for the body to move to rhythm, so yes, ballet is both an art and an exercise. Plus ballet instructors are awfully strict.

    KyaraAthena I don’t think it was really for the guys. These kinds of videos are mostly to draw focus to the fact that ballerinas are, in fact, some of the toughest athletes out there, and to prove that ballet is just as much a sport as something like cross fit

  • @SuperS800

    @SuperS800

    7 жыл бұрын

    Priscilla Morales they were merely doing this as something to try and experience, not something to do seriously on a regular basis so corrections will be quite useless. Besides, first time students are given leeway to adjust, memorize, and get used to the moves on their own, corrections only happens much later, like possibly a couple of days into the class because if a teacher corrects them on the very first day, those particular corrections won't even be remembered by the student and if the teacher keeps on correcting the student from the very beginning then they will be spending majority of the class doing corrections rather than doing a full class. I would know, I'm a ballet student as well as a teacher.

    Diana Wilton technically yes male ballet dancers do go on pointe, however it just isnt done as often. She is a trained professional who knows how her shank and box are supposed to feel, whereas had they put these men in a pair of pointe shoes it couls be potentially dangerous as the arent trained in how it should feel, and they could end up hurting themselves.

    The cross fitters don't have the stamina or flexibility to dance and the ballet dancers wouldn't have the strength or stamina to make it through a cross fit workout. It's two completely different sports and I hate when people make it seem like their sport is the hardest and no one else can do it... well no shit they have a totally different set of skills. It doesn't mean they are weak or not athletic it just means they aren't trained in your particular sport. Ballet is hard. Cross fit is hard. Sports are hard and provide tons of different challenges that not everyone is going to be good at.

    Dancers are some of the strongest athletes in the world, and they have rehearsals and performances that are hours long. Yes there are different skill sets needed for each sport, but dancers definitely have both strength and stamina

  • @michaelaleach8195

    @michaelaleach8195

    7 жыл бұрын

    Janice Jacobs of Im not saying dancing isn't extremely challenging, it requires an incredible amount of fine muscle control, strength and stamina. HOWEVER there is a difference between dancer strong and cross fit strong. Neither one is more superior or inferior they are totally different. The type of muscle control and sheer strength it takes to to a hang clean or a dead lift and then go run 2 miles is completely different from a what kind of strength is required of a ballet dancer to make it through a class or a show. It's apples and oranges. A cross fit athlete could probably get through a difficult day of dance classes but not well, and not without being sore. A dancer in decent shape would probably make it through a cross fit workout but probably with less reps and much lower weight. Also the desired body types are polar opposites. Cross fit is short, stalky and as dense as possible. Dancers are supposed to be light, tallish, slender and lean. I wouldn't expect a dancer to be able to lift anything super heavy because it's not beneficial to their sport, or expect a cross fit athlete to have good turn out and be extra flexible.

    Selina Warrington the majority of professional or higher trained dancers do so for many reasons. It creates a longer line, better for partnering, easier to take off for another style of dance, to name a few. It also shows they are higher up in training as leo on the outside looks more childish. Mostly though, its just more comfortable.

    Honestly, I would love a gymnast keep up with ballerinas (or the other way around) as they're both sports that require complete control over one's body and can be viewed as a form of art.

    i'm not a ballet dancer of some sorts (nor a gymnast) but i can do a few turns and learned how to stand from kneeling positions without using my hands. showed my friends how to do it and they couldn't sit properly for a whole class period

    My dance instructor calls getting up from a sitting position using your hands an “old lady move”. We spent nearly 40 minutes just standing up and sitting down, and my legs were aching by the time we were done! It’s weird how much we rely on our arm strength for something that really has nothing to do with our arms.

    I can't see how it was ever a question that ballet dancers (all dancers) are fantastic athletics. Their muscle tone is off the charts and they are damn near flying around in the air. I've always had immense respect for ballet dancers.

    As someone who has danced, and adored, ballet for a number of years, I admire what they are doing- even though this was just under two minutes of internal screaming! ;-) The rule with ballet is that if it isn't hurting, you're not doing it correctly. Doing ballet well, you can work up a serious sweat and get your heart pumping, whilst standing completely still at the barre.

    As a guy who dances ballet I don't know why they always make things like this. Grown men learning girls routines or wearing tutus. Absolutely nothing wrong with that but it perpetializes the stigma around ballet as it being something "for girls". It's not funny. Ballet is so beautiful and it demands so much hard work. This video took more seriously than any other, but still...
