CROSSBOW Broadhead Testing LIVE!

Спорт

Looking to test broadhead penetration in a fun but informative way...you know, Death by Bunjie style! Will Genevieve switch broadheads this fall? We'll see!
The tests were pretty interesting. Shooting at a tire is not the best medium--but it was fun, for sure. You can jump to the fun points if you want:
1:20 Introducing the Testing Grounds
2:20 Our Competitors
12:00 Genevieve and I Put in Our Guesses
15:51 Tru Glo 100 Grains!
22:20 The X-Act
27:20 The Boltcutters
30:45 Rage Crossbow Hypodermic
36:50 Rage Crossbow Trypan
45:00 Swa-hacker (okay, it's Shwacker, LOL...or Swhacker)
30:20 Geese
53:45 A look at the results...
59:45 Final thoughts...
Will we switch? We'll see! Answering the comments: yes, the steel wire in tires checks up broadheads for sure! But the test is fair--every broadhead had a chance to hit the wire. Plus, deer aren't tires. Thank you all for the Superchats! Much appreciated! Yes, I know how to pronounce Swhacker--but it's still fun. For the Friend of Bunjie who struggles in the presence of deer--shoot more deer. That is the only way to overcome! The name "Bunjie" is revealed (for real!) in my book, The Death by Bunjie Crossbow Story (available on Amazon.com) (you are correct, Daniel Garcia--gotta read the book--I don't want to spoil it for you!). You can get our email for gift packages (Thanks, Amish Sasquatch!) on the website--send me an email off deathbybunjie.com and we'll reply! Yes we will be testing SEVR soon. Tire season all year long! LOL, good one! And thanks for the tire repair shop recommendation! George Keith--won't be a Goodyear--LOL! Turkey decoy and Hogzilla--that's good stuff.
We will test our Rages, some fixed blades, a Swhacker, and a couple of gifts from Friends of Bunjie!

I’ve shot all kinds of broadheads over the years. Switched to Swhacker several years back when the 100g “Green Heads” with a 2” cut showed up. Killed a ton of deer with them. Huge holes both impact and exit!! Never had a deer go more than 40 yards after taking one in the boiler room!!! You do your job, they’ll do theirs!!!

You probably need to do a Meat Pack like KZreadr Paul Harrel does when testing ammunition for firearms, to test real penetration. He uses leather, pork ribs, oranges to simulate the lung tissue, another pack of pork ribs and leather again.

Awesome thought using the rubber tire only because the surface is not flat. This is truly showing the effects of hitting perhaps a bone or something. Your pictures show different angles.

My take on this is that out of those mechanicals, the swhacker gives you the best chance of hitting vitals should you hit shoulder blade. They are designed to be a delayed opening blade, meaning they don't open until they pass through the hide. I'd be curious to see your results on a deer this year.

just got back from vacation so missed the live stream, but just finished watching the video and thought it was a good comparison of the different broadheads. i did this same test a few years ago and have narrowed my broadheads down to two - for fixed blades, i use the Muzzy 100 and for mechanicals, it’s the rage Hypodermic (100 grain). never had a reason to use any others since then.

My fixed blade slick tricks 4 blade chisel tip didn’t require any tuning. It shot perfect. I to was skeptical because I started with fixed blades. Then went to rage due to accuracy. Then once rage failed me I switched to NAP Killzone trophy tip. These never failed. Most of the time was able to reuse these. Once I got a crossbow. I decided To give the fixed blade a go again. Slick trick was the sister company to my crossbow so thought it would work out. $40 they better be. I have taken deer out to 50 yards with it. But who knows if they will be accurate with other crossbows. Sorry I missed the live show. Have a great day.

i've only used thunderhead broadheads.fixed blade 100gr and 125gr.they fly great and have the best penetration. in your demo if you hit the shoulder of a heavy deer, no doubt a good fixed blade would go through.i've had my arrows go through both shoulders at the thickest part of the bone and go out the other side. you don't lose a deer when your arrow can do that.

Not sure if you will get this message, but I made a once in a lifetime shot last season using a G5 Tekan mechanical 125 gr broadhead. I was at 20 yds in an elevated stand (12ft) in central Wisconsin and two does lined up perfectly and I couldn't resist. I ended up making a double lung shot on both deer with one arrow from my Barnett XP380 crossbow. They both ran about 30 yds and bellied up at the same time. I had a Tactacam mounted on my crossbow and in the excitement, forgot to turn it on. Would love to see you test this broadhead yourself. I will never use any other broadhead

I'm using the 3 inch swhacker 150grain in my EXCALIBUR MAG340. They are fieldpointe accurate but you have to aim for the heart or lungs. If you hit the deer high with the 3 inch swhacker they will just bleed inside I was told!!!

Not sure if you'll see this or if it hasn't been mentioned already. You have to change the band on a new Schwaker after it has been cleaned. The oil they put on them weakens the band. I had one open as soon as it left my crossbow last year. Still hit the deer at 35yds. Still went thru the deer. Still killed the deer. But it hit the back of the lungs/liver instead of front of the lungs/heart. Truglo hack. Replace the 2 shorter blades with 2 longer blades from another one. Haven't had a shot at a deer yet but it flies just as true as a "stock" truglo.

I'd be interested to see this test done with a Rage Crossbow X broadhead. I remember watching an old hunting video back in the '90s with my father that showed the two types of fixed broadheads available at the time, ones with a chisel point and ones with a blade that acted as the point. The bladed points worked immensely better for penetration into biological material. Almost no resistance through things like leather, so when I got back into the game recently and bought expandable broadheads, I looked for one that had that feature, which is why I settled on the Crossbow X. I'm curious to know if these would penetrate through the tire better than the hypodermic broadheads. Obviously rubber isn't the same as biological material, but on the one kill shot I did make with these broadheads, they cut bone in half.

My favorite broadhead is the tooth of the arrow. Mechanical broadheads work great except when they don't. Used to use rage hypo. Killed the first deer like a boss. The second go around lost a deer that should have died. Switched to tooth of the arrow and haven't had any run to far since. I have also been testing the annihilator broadheads and steel will broadheads. Both seem to be just as reliable. Until I get a fixed blade to fail I'm just gonna stick with them. Two holes guaranteed almost every time leaves a much better blood trail if you need one. Yea I've seen first hand how fast a Mechanical kills a deer but I've also seen what happens when it doesn't.

I have been watching your channel for some time with great interest and I will be in the market for a XBOW in the near future. I have a question regarding bolts and bolt weight along with changing the knox with the illuminox ones. I will be purchasing an introductory XBow ( Killer Instinct MSCKI-1104 ) and while it says potentially 405 I will be happy with somewhere around 305. I recently watched the jumping the string video and in my instance it will not matter too much as shots will be within the 20-30 yard mark but, if needed, I will just aim a bit lower for longer shots LOL..... So lets say that you have a potential 405 bow and your target speed is the 330ish. I am thinking I will need to purchase a better scope as I don't believe this one has a speed ring. I don't have a Chronograph and I don't think I have a range near me. Handicapped as I am in this instance what are your suggestions? If you have a video on bolt length, bolt weight, changing nox, ect.....plesae link it for me otherwise can I make a humble request from a newbie! Thanks.....Chuck and ALL HAIL BUNGIE! :)

@@Deathbybunjie bolt and broadhead weight will cut the speed as I understand things...am I not correct? • @Deathbybunjie

    @Deathbybunjie

    2 жыл бұрын

Many mechanical broadheads in the past have used rubber bands or some other way of keeping the blades closed during flight. Sometimes this is really important with crossbows because there is so much energy when that arrow is released that it can force the blades open. That ruins accuracy. Modern modern broadheads, or at least many of them, don't need those Rubber bands. It really depends on what design you are using. I am not familiar with that broadhead but I'm betting that if you bought legitimate broadheads, if they didn't come in the package then you don't need them. But you'd have to really research that broadhead to make sure. Look at the ads online and make sure that other ones like that don't come with those rubber bands. I hope that helps!

It's a very inaccurate test due to the fact that some of the bolts hit in between the treads....therefore not having to penetrate the thicker material where the actual treads are....

I get ya, but it wasn't a test so much as a fun time in the backyard lol. This isn't a testing channel, really. A test wouldn't use a steel belted radial haha. But really, the results would be similar anyway...fixed penetrates better because smaller and doesn't have to open, Swhacker beats the reality of the bunch. Good stuff.
