I'm another viewer who really enjoys seeing the before picture as well as the picture that comes with the chart. I like seeing a project grow. I heard your Charlie snoring through my laptop, and my (cat) Kanga snoring from behind my stitching chair. It was a concert! As always, wonderful work and thank you so much for sharing it with us :-)

Your WIPs are coming along fabulously! The more you do on that blackwork (or blue work in your case!) the better it looks, and I bet it really is shiny in person. I've got to try mine again - I just can't figure out why I did not enjoy that piece on Jan 1! You got some beautiful things in your haul as well. And I love the pink wolf project - can't wait to see what it looks like. I bet it will turn out to be gorgeous as sometimes the color of the floss looks very different when it's actually stitched than when it's on the bobbin. Always love your videos and look forward to seeing what you're up to!

Shadow5618 Thank you so much! Definitely give the blackwork another go - some of those patterns can be very annoying, and less enjoyable than the others. I do enjoy stitching the piece but I'm glad when the week is up and I can go back to my first love (regular cross stitch). In fact I'm wondering if all this blackwork is straining my eyes too much and causing my headaches.... I've been blaming my HAED but I may be wrong. Stitching on black is difficult enough without having to concentrate on those intricate backstitched patterns. Hopefully my daughter will start the wolf project soon so I can do an update on my next video. I'm curious to see how those colours will come out too. Happy stitching :) xx

Mary Beasley Thanks so much Mary. Don't let them intimidate you - I have done a video on aida vs even weave, stitching 2 over 2 and 1 over 1 etc.... just need to fix a few mistakes I have in the video and then I'll upload it. Hopefully that may help give you the courage to try it. It just takes a little more concentration, but once you get the hang of it you'll love it... I'm sure.Thank you for your lovely comments and happy stitching :) x

Hi Carolyn, l too have only recently discovered "floss tube" and am really enjoying watching your videos as I stitch. My name is Sandra. I'm a born n bred Aussie living in Texas, USA. It's nice to hear an Aussie accent :-) The wolf kit that you purchased, I saw on another floss tubers - Kelley Jo Crafts - she is an American lady and I'm sure she found it more locally. Sorry I cannot find the particular video of hers with that kit. My current wip is "Fairy Castle" from 'Crosstitch Magic' which was a fortnightly publication I subscribed to many years ago in Aus. Thanks for sharing. Bless you heaps, Sandra.

+Sandra's Stitches Hi Sandra, it's so lovely to hear from you. Let me say right from the start, how jealous I am that you're living in the USA!.... you lucky girl!! I haven't been to Texas, but I do hope to head back in that direction one day! I suspect that wolf kit is a copy from a legitimate designer... I've noticed a lot of the Chinese designs are, which is sad. My daughter hasn't even started it yet, so it will probably sit in the cupboard for a few more years. Thanks so much for watching, and happy stitching :) x

Always love your videos. I am interested to hear how you and your daughter like the printed kit from China, I had thought about getting one to work with the grand daughters but wasn't sure of the quality and how hard or easy they are to work. Your Save the Stitches is looking brilliant and you are a brave one to work it on black fabric.

saja abdullah Hopefully my daughter will start the project soon so I can do an update on my next video. I'm curious to see how all those purples and pinks will work. Even if they don't, at least it only cost me $6 and she'll have learnt something new from it all. I'm always drawn to black fabric - I just love how colours "pop" on it. I've done a couple of other designs on black before and each time I've finished I've actually completely put my stitching away for a period of time.... it really drains me. I'm glad I have other projects on the go, so I know that won't happen this time. Thank you for your kind comments :) x

HaHa poor Charlie when you said his name I can just imagine him jerking his head up and looking at you bewildered like what mom? I can visualize this because this is what my Chihuahua does when I do the same to him! Your Mira is coming along so quickly! I LOVE the color choice of Save the stitches! I agree with the purple of the Easter project! Those threads do look very pink for a wolf? It is strange how colors turn out though.

Stitching Mae He's a weird dog - he cries to come inside and then just sleeps all day/night. Why does he need to be around people to sleep? He's so demanding! He loves to chase a laser spot around the house. Sometimes when he's sleeping and snoring super loud, we call out "spot" and he jumps up so fast it's hilarious.... of course then we have to play with him, otherwise it would be cruel. I'm so excited at the prospect of finishing my Mira - I can't wait to see her up on the wall. Save the Stitches will probably take an entire year to complete, but that's ok, it's a welcome change from regular cross stitch and keeps things interesting. The Easter design is now finished (just in time for Easter), so I'll show that in my next update video. I can't wait for my daughter to start the wolves so I can see how those colours will look. Thank you for your lovely comments. Happy stitching :) x

The town is called Bonifay! I am a native Floridian, I was born here in Bonifay, but grew up in the country SE of here! Thanks for repling to my comment. I enjoy watching your videos, I am trying to get into or rather back into cross stitch, but I am not very good at it. I am better at knitting. How do all of you do it soooo fast? I am working on the Deminsions Frogs See, Hear, Speak No Evil, and I am taking out as much as I am putting in...lol! It has been many, many years since I tried to do cross stitch. I tried to grid it, but didn't really do well with that either.

Lovely WIPs, Carolyn. Your mermaid is so pretty, and your STS is just stunning! I recently bought that same wolf kit from China. I have yet to stitch it, but I love the wolves! :)

Kelley Jo Thank you so much Kelley Jo :) Oh wow! Did you think the pinks and purples was also a little strange? x

Yes, I did think the pinks were a little odd for the wolves. They are mostly beigey-greyish pinks though, so I'm hoping it makes sense as it comes together.

Beautiful work as always. Really enjoy seeing your progress. When you make your little Irish pillow would you consider filming your process? Would love to see how you assemble and sew it. Thanks for your efforts lovely!

ann dodds I did think about doing that Ann, but I'm not sure if I can prop my iPhone up anywhere so I can do that - I'll try and think of something. If not, maybe I can take photo's and do a voice-over video so you can still see how it's done. Thanks for watching :) x

ann dodds a Chatelaine is on my future wish list.... there are so many gorgeous designs to choose from. I must admit I'm a little scared to start one though, incase I only want to stitch Chatelaine's after that.... seems to be the common thing these days lol. I have so many designs I want to stitch (don't we all)..... I might leave starting one until next year, we'll see. Thank you for your continued support of my channel - it's really appreciated :) x

I think you are so pretty! Your hair looks so nice in this video. 😊 All your WIPS are beautiful, but I think that Easter egg one is so cool. I'm interested to see how the wolf turns out as well. It will be funny if it ends up purple. What kind of dog is Charlie?

Jennifer Hasler Aww thanks Jennifer, you made me blush! The Easter design is now finished - I'll show it in the next video. So glad I got it done before Easter :) Purple wolves.... now that would look interesting :) Charlie is a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel - and he's the loudest snorer I've ever encountered..... canine or human! lol! Happy stitching :) x

Lovely work and just love your new charts from Little House Needleworks, etc. I haven't stitched one yet but I have some in my watch list on eBay. I know I'll get one eventually because I'm really attracted to samplers and things like that. I sent you a friend request today on Facebook so the one from Annie is me!! 😃

Luna Marigold Little House Needleworks and Country Cottage Needleworks are my new favourite thing! Their designs are so cute and charming, and quick to stitch up too. Thanks for the friend request.... I get so many requests, and most of them I have no idea who they are. I usually don't accept unless I have mutual friends :) Thanks for watching and happy stitching :) x

Glad you are feeling better - I know how frustrating it is when you get a headache when you want to do stitching! I can't concentrate on anything when I get one! Mermaid's looking fab and I especially love the blackwork project - that's my favourite project of yours and I love seeing your progress, Blackwork interests me and I'd like to learn more about it - probably a stupid question but is blackwork just made up of back stitching/cross stitch or does it require embroidery stitches? xxx

Messy Stitcher Thanks for your lovely comments :) As I tell me children, there is no such thing as a stupid question! Yes it is just back stitching, with no embroidery stitches involved at all. I haven't done a single embroidery stitch, although I would like to learn one day.If you would like to learn more about it, or maybe even give it a try, I suggest going to Liz Almond's page where she has heaps of free blackwork designs for you to try for free.... it doesn't get any better than that! here's the link to her page: www.blackworkjourney.co.uk/index.shtml The Freebies link is on the left side of the page. She's a very talented lady and also very generous with her patterns too :) Happy Easter to you and your family :) x

Hi Carolyn, I love watching your videos. Amazing work. I am going to start my black works stitch along very soon but I'm not sure what evenweave count to stitch it on. If I decide to stitch on 22 count evenweave what size fabric should I use? Thanks.

  • @TheFlosstubeStitcher

Stitching queen Thank you very much! Do you mean the Save The Stitches from Blackwork Journey? If so, and you decided on 22ct, the finished design size would be 16, 3/8" x 34, 1/2" (if worked over 2 threads) and then you would need to add extra to allow for a border on all 4 sides. For example, if you wanted a 3" border (which is what I always use), you would need a total amount of 23" x 41". HOWEVER, Liz has now added the option of an additional border design to the piece (which wasn't there when I started)..... so if you wanted to do that also, you will need additional fabric again. The fabric calculator I used to determine the sizes is here: yarntree.com/java/xstitchcal.htm I always use a calculator like this to figure out fabric amounts.... it's essential to avoid mistakes. If you decide to use the additional border, and don't feel confident in working it out yourself, or just want me to double check your own calculations, I'm more than happy to do that for you. Just let me know :) Best of luck xx

About kits from China: you need to be really carefull about that, because there are no such thing as author rights in China (they copy everything). Also some patterns are really poor quality

Milda V. Z. Yes I'm aware of that - I was just curious about them and figured for $6 it was worth a try. I don't plan on buying any for myself, but I can see the merits of teaching with them because it's just like a paint-by-numbers, except it's stitching :) x
