I kind of want to try to make a solid top, but I have the same concern as you. How you you get in and out of it? It would have to fit loose in order you for you do that. So it won't look as flattering as when you can tighten it with the lace up back. That's how I see it.

What I did was make it so it almost touched and then added the lace up so it looks solid but is still tightened to fit

What I did cause it also worked for me is I did it a second time and stopped at 19:21 and connected the sides making a really cute bag

Ik this three months ago but if you’re still curious it doesn’t really matter what ply or hook size you use. I used a 6mm and it worked just fine.

So you make a loop, make another loop, put those through the stitch, make another loop, and then pull the yarn through that

Ugh this don’t work . I did finish but the straps don’t even look good in real life the way she adjusts it . And it’s crazy how she goes around like 100 times . Its useless
