Hi Natalie! Thank you for this tutorial, I'm so excited to make it!! It's my first time doing the solomon stitch - and in the first row I ended up with some stitches left (i think 3 or 2, even though I made sure the whole was 58 (which should be 4 x 14 + 2 stitches). Why are there two additional stitches in the calculation and where do they show? Thanks so much c: Also is there a way to correct if one has been going in the wrong direction once?

Hi there💞 So, for the solomon stitch we basically need 4 base stitches cus we skip 3 + 1 Sc in next st (3+1=4). So for a N number of solomon stitches we need: "N x 4". Then we need a starting point which is the first sc before the first Solomon know, so: "N x 4 +1". And then, because the top of the skirt we work in the Dc rounds we have a beginning chain (C2) that we count as a stitch, that's right after joining the round with a slip-st, right? that's +1 and so "N x 4 +1 + 1= Nx4+2" that's the base we need to start Solomon sts. However solomon pattern can't be work in the round and so that stitch (C2) will be eliminated right when you starting the very first Sc before the first Solomon knot. All in all, the base need to be a number of x4+2 😉

About the fit of the upper part: because of the fabric nature, when it's has to stretch for certain part of the body (in this case the hip) the remaining part of the fabric has this tendency of narrowing down (in this case the waist). Especially when the hip is not too larger than the waist then the crochet fabric should fit nicely like so (also that's why I recommend using the Chainless Foundation cus it's add more stretchiness to the first row which is the waistband. In case you have more curves (a large hip), at 39:29 I suggest using the drawing string closure which is my favorite system for all most every crochet bottom piece (I use it for the thigh-laced skirt, shorts,... it the best way to make the piece fir nicely)

Do you by chance know how to decrease on the Solomon Mesh Stitch to make the skirt into an asymmetrical shape

I use yarn from different brands but my favorite would be "Papatya yarn" or "Bernat yarn"💓
