Check out this tutorial, it's the same pattern It's with 4.0 mm hook and medium weight size 4 kzread.info/dash/bejne/o3lmxdVyaJvRdZM.html

I followed the pattern with 4 ply cotton yarn but my petals seem to curl up and droop. What yarn is best to keep the petals stiff please

Actually, i now see that you said its 100% cotton. Looks to me that it might be mercerized. It would be nice to know the brand name 😊.
