    Just finished the hat and it is adorable! I used neutrals (cream and brown) because we don't know the baby's gender yet and will add the blue or pink accents later. I'm also going to make the boots and a "denim" diaper cover skirt if it's a girl or a diaper cover for a boy. We're going to use it for newborn baby pictures. Thank you so much for sharing. I don't know ms emi...I love this lil hat that I made. this time I made it in black, haven't put a brim on it yet. It looks like a lil Stetson cowboy hat. I just shaped it into place and it stays. I didn't have to put the lil stitch on the top to hold it. From the front of the brim to the back of the brim it measures 7inches and it is also 7 inches wide. Maybe one of these days it will come out like yours lol. yours looks soft and airy. Maybe soon I can email my pictures to you. Hugs from texas.

    Hi ms emi, Idk what I am doing wrong, but I will get it. When I get real frustrated I have to leave it alone. Anyways in the process of leaving it alone, I was able to make your diaper cover and then made it into a skirt....yey me, and then I made a small beanie using both the colors of the diaper skirt. So thank you so much. I have made ur high tops and other booties, scarves, beards,cocoon, ties. I put the babys initial on the ties. next are those beautiful cowboy boots...

    Hmmm... I don't remember if I turned it or not... with turning after every row, there is no inside or outside, so I may have. That shouldn't make any difference in the way it looks when finished though. What exactly do you find would be the one most obvious thing that makes it look different? (You could send me pictures through the contact section in my Hectanooga shop on etsy. I can't post a url here, but the link is below this video.)

Im still having trouble with the boots. Im usually off by a stitch and for some reason the end result makes one look wider and the other one longer. I cant get past the sole, I have done it countless times and it wont come out. I like the end result of each, I just cant get it to match. I WILL figure it out. (lol)

    ms emi, I am doing another cowboy hat in the hopes that it would come out looking like yours. It isn't...maybe I am crocheting to tight. I also noticed when u finished your 10 rounds (before the brim), I noticed that the tail was on the outside of the hat. Did you turn it inside out, or did I start off wrong? I don't know if that would be a reason why it doesn't look like yours. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Hugs from west tx.

    hi ms emi. I did the cowboy hat. Looks nothing like ur. Mine looks like a cake on a plate. I just shape it and it holds. Idk what I did wrong Its cute but its not like your. Yours looks fluffy and airy. I didn't even have to put a few stitches at the top. I want it to look like yours. Any tips or ideas why it came out like that? As for the boots, I did try with separate balls to make one at a time. Its just something minute, but I will get it. Thanks and keep on doing what u do best. Hugs!!!

  • @Hectanooga1

    @Hectanooga1

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Catherine Whittaker --Hi there Cathrin... if the brim is wavy, that means there are too many stitches... so you will have to unravel up to where you increased including the increase row, and do less increase stitches, for example: Make 2 single in every 3rd stitch... if that does not work for you, then alternate with : 2 single crochet in the 2nd stitch, and then 2 single crochet in the 3rd stitch all the way around.

    hi Amy, when I have the 40 sc how many cm should have, because mine looks much smaller than yours, I am using a 5.5 hook but my yarn look thinner,tried with 2 yarn but look to thick.... can you please tell me the hat mesures in cm for a newborn to 3 months please? Thanks

  • @Hectanooga1

    @Hectanooga1

    8 жыл бұрын

    barbara nogueira In cm, for a newborn to 3 months, your work should measure approx. 35.5 cm in circumference... (folded, 17.5 cm) You could check your work, by working a chain of 10 stitches, then work single crochet in the stitches. With worsted weight yarn, 10 sc stitches should measure 9 cm... if you have tight tension, then it will not, and so that means that in order to achieve the correct size you would have to add more stitches along the last row of increase, or in the following row to get to the number required according to your tension. Head sizes for babies in cm: Newborn: 35.5 cm (14 inches) 6 mths: 40.5 cm., (16 inches)

  • @Hectanooga1

    @Hectanooga1

    10 жыл бұрын

    It's quite common for people new to crochet, to have very tight tension, so that could be the issue. Also, in crochet, hook size, and yarn size are very important in order for items to turn out the correct size.

  • @mrslivingston6498

    Great video. I purchased the pattern today and am a little confused. In the video, after the initial chain, join and ch 1, you say 10 sc, but the written-purchased pattern does not say 10, but a lesser number.

  • @Hectanooga1

    @Hectanooga1

    10 жыл бұрын

    Aha, yes, I added one additional row in the pattern, but follow the pattern, you will notice that after the 2nd row of the pattern instructions, you will have 10 sc around. (That step simply reduces bulk in the very center of the top of the hat. Sometimes people have a difficult time putting 10 sc in that first ring.) So follow the instructions in the pattern.

    +Caty Palacios ?????? Y por que la persona tiene la obligacion de ponerlo en español si solamente habla ingles? Creo que mas bien si tu tienes interes en hacer lo que ves en el video, puedes guiarte solo por lo que vas viendo, o bien aprender ingles!

    Hello! I bought yor written pattern and I noticed that in the beginning you state in the video to single crochet 10 in the chain of 5 but in your written it says to make 5 single crochet into chain of 5 ring. Just want to let you know! Love the hat and boots!

    Either way works,,, since you have the pattern, then the best thing would be to follow that. An adjustment has been made in the written pattern so that after step 2, both instructions are now at the same stage.

    +Julie Leasure You could make it larger, but that would be more than just one adjustment. I only offered the newborn size for free, as this pattern is one in my pattern shop. www.etsy.com/listing/130011323/crochet-pattern-cowboy-boots-cowboy-hat?ref=shop_home_active_2&ga_search_query=cowboy%2Bhat

    +Julie Leasure Hmmm well... in crochet there can only be 3 reasons: 1. Smaller hook 2. Thinner yarn 3. Tight tension Not sure which one, but it is likely one of those. And probably tight tension if you are using worsted weight yarn and a 5.5 mm hook. You could try again with a 6.5 mm hook.

    +Julie Leasure O.K. you probably have tight tension, and you should move up to a size 6.5 mm hook, (US K 10.5)

    thank you for replaying now i know what im doing wrong but still top part of the hat is too small i used 8 australian ply wool any thicker then that would be too thick for a baby

    Oh, sorry you are having trouble... why not work from 2 different balls of yarn, making both soles as you go... that way you should work out exactly right!! Going to post the pattern on the blog in a moment.

    Awe thanks! I saw that particular one on pinterest. I was looking more for one with the alternating front post double crochet. I took this cowboy hat and tweaked it with a front post double crochet, and it worked! Now only if I can figure out the shield on the front. Thank you!

    On the right side of the black bar below the video, there is a little "gear" icon. If you hover over that it says "settings".... click on it, and you can slow the video down to 1/4 speed.
