Croagh Patrick Mountain and Clew Bay | Co. Mayo | Ireland 4K | DJI M3Classic | DJI Mini2
Croagh Patrick is a mountain in County Mayo, Ireland, known for its historical and religious significance, as well as its stunning natural beauty. Here are some key points about Croagh Patrick:
1. **Religious Significance**: Croagh Patrick is an important site of pilgrimage. It is traditionally associated with Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, who is said to have fasted on the summit for 40 days in 441 AD. Every year, thousands of pilgrims climb the mountain on "Reek Sunday," the last Sunday in July, to honor Saint Patrick.
2. **Geography**: The mountain rises to 764 meters (2,507 feet) and offers spectacular views over Clew Bay and the surrounding landscape. Its conical shape makes it a distinctive feature in the region.
3. **Climbing the Mountain**: The climb to the summit is challenging, with a steep and rocky path. Pilgrims and hikers often start their ascent from the village of Murrisk, which lies at the foot of the mountain. Despite the difficulty, the climb is popular due to the spiritual and physical rewards it offers.
4. **Historical Sites**: At the summit, there is a small chapel, which was built in 1905. Archaeological evidence also suggests that the site has been a place of worship dating back to the pre-Christian era, with signs of ancient Celtic rituals.
5. **Cultural Impact**: Croagh Patrick holds a special place in Irish culture and history, symbolizing both the spiritual heritage of Ireland and the endurance of its people. It is often featured in Irish folklore and literature.
6. **Environmental Considerations**: As a natural landmark, Croagh Patrick faces environmental challenges, including erosion due to the high volume of foot traffic. Conservation efforts are ongoing to preserve the mountain's natural beauty and ecological health.
Overall, Croagh Patrick is not only a physical challenge for climbers but also a profound spiritual journey for many who visit.

Wasn't that bad. Google maps not great in the west. Up grass lanes. But been years since I was there, road network a lot better.
