Critiquing AI Startup Websites with YC President Garry Tan

Ғылым және технология

In the crowded field of AI related startups, it's important to get your website just right. You probably have a lot to say, but not a lot of time to say it. For this episode of Design Review, Group Partner Aaron Epstein invited YC President and CEO Garry Tan to break down what’s working (and what’s not) on the websites of five different AI startups. Watch along as they provide concrete advice that will help you improve your own site designs, regardless of what type of company you’re building.
And if you'd like to have your startup's website reviewed, please submit your info here: shorturl.at/wIJS0. We’re especially interested in checking out mobile site designs for an upcoming episode.
Thank you to these companies for volunteering:

    If your call to action is to have people to try your product, is it good practice to always have an input box for email in the first part of the website, or also fine to leave it at the end, after the person has scrolled through the website to understand what is actually is?

    I have a genuine question, not trying to attack a company or y combinator but I noticed most of these companies have little social presence in terms of low posting, low efforts, low subscribers, etc. .. so how do they get a lot of users then? are there other good strategies besides social media?

  • @ycombinator

    @ycombinator

    Жыл бұрын

    B2B / enterprise / SMB businesses tend to rely less on social media and more on outbound or inbound marketing, which means the website needs to support a sales team or some drip campaign that gets people to convert. Social media is a factor in inbound marketing but not the only one. Events are often much bigger for such businesses.

    For some apps, especially ones for nicher users (for instance reality defender seems to fit this), wouldn't real users who end up on a webpage already know something about what the app does from wherever they heard about the company?

    I don't think this was a great a content. Like one of the hosts said on the video, they are not the target demo for these companies. So they generally commented on the design aspect of the website, and some are valid, but they simply don't get what the companies are going for.
