The worst part is people not understanding the literal meaning of Itihaasa. It is a combination of two words: Itih and aasa. This literally means "this, because of that". Basically if you see these itihaasas, they will be like "describe a plot, then ask a question, and explain a flashback episode as an answer to this question". It is a frickin style of writing. Any literary work, if it has a flashback episode which comes to answer a question, then it is an itihaasa. As such, anybody can write them. There is no necessity that they have to be ancient, and absolutely no necessity that they should be historical accounts. Dunno when will people realize this difference.

Actual Sanskritam (yes, it was never Sanskrit, implicit antya virama was a Hindi notion) calls it as Sandhi Vichedana. Second, take any Sanskritam dictionary and look up the meaning of the word haasa. It means 'laughter / comedy / arrogance'. If you divide it as iti + haasa, it means 'this is a joke / comedy / arrogance'. I can also share a link of all dictionaries that I've checked if you want.

Observational physics is that old . People in many parts of the world at that time used to observe planets position, stars and all for years to study them. Because their were no instruments avaliable there used to many flaws in it. Like people used to call stars as planets and planet as stars. Talking about indian history (what u call panhang) there are many flaws. Like they used to consider moon as planet ,sun as planet. Actually the two nodes of moon were considered as two planets. The north pole of moon was rahu and south was ketu. Uranus ,Neptune ,Pluto wasn't known because we can't see them withh naked eyes. Only the planets and stars we can see with eyes were known. This tells that it was based on observation done by human eyes.
