I remember back in the 80s, my parents would drop me off at daycare and there was this little girl-about 4 yrs old-who’s dad would drop her off on his Goldwing. While she had a helmet and jacket, etc, he strapped her car seat to the sissy bar with bungee cords. At the time I thought how cool that was; but looking back, I can’t believe he did that.

An uncle took me around for a couple weeks on a bike when I was 7 or 8. He would make me wear a helmet but that's it. Scary thing is he was in a accident at 75mph about a month afterwards. Luckily he walked away unscathed.
My 11 yr old named 2 things he likes. The acceleration and lean angle. Obviously I try to provide both, but with a lot bigger safety margin than when riding alone. If I had money, he'd be wearing motogp-worthy gear all the time.
I dont like putting my daughter on my bike. I will up at our cabin where its dirt roads and very minimal traffic.. there is to much to lose

Finally someone sensible
Martin Foster is right, come visit us in Vietnam - you’ll see things you never thought was possible on a bike - bet you didn’t know you could ride with a full size fridge on the back of your 115 cc bike while your 2-year old kid is standing in front of you)) seriously, come visit, you’ll shoot tonnes of fin stuff here. Btw - LS2 makes a very decent full face helmet for kids.
This was very helpful . Though I am 55 and have many years riding experience , I have little to no experience hauling children , but now my grand girls express an interest their mom never had . .
We also have intercom systems in our helmets so we can talk. Talking to her helps make sure she's awake.
No kids, no comment (Ironically) Thanks for everything you do Dan, even these touchy ones but anyone who has watched you knows it comes from a good place.
I plan on taking my kid around our neighborhood (25mph or less) a few times. Got her gear already. Thanks for the video!
I have ridden as a passenger since i was 8 and i never fell asleep, maybe because my grandpa rode fast haha. I held onto the backrest bars when riding on his harley and held on to the sissy bars when on his f800st. Last Christmas I actually got to ride the f800st by myself in a parking lot. It was easier than i thought but i mean I’ve been riding dirt for like 8 months at that point.
Thanks, I needed this, I have 52 nieces and nephews...they always want a ride.
Never buy a harness so they are stuck on you. If you go down you will crush them, since they can’t slide away. It’s also illegal at least here in Sweden.. lots of shops have children gear in eu, many have webshops

Better still don't take kids on the pillion and show some common sense
Single dad here, I’ve carried my son as a pillion since he was 7 years old. He is now 11 and a MUCH better passenger. - you’re putting the child’s life in your hands. Get the best gear, start with short rides first to ensure they get comfortable. Don’t take your kid on a 50 mile run with no experience. - please be a competent rider, particularly slow speed maneuvering. Kids get disoriented by jerky movements (at least mine did) their comfort level goes up when your skill at handling low speed stuff is high. - if the trip is going to be longer, budget time for extended breaks. Kids want to visit the bathroom more often than adults do. I’ve taken my son on a 400 mile day trip and he was up to it, you just have to be mindful of time management more than if you’re riding alone. - get a pillion headset. I’ve caught my kid wanting to doze off more than once, this ensures you’re in constant communication and know when to take a break and allow for him to get a Power Nap in.
I fell asleep a few times on the back of my dad's cruiser when I was a kid. He caught me and got the bike to stop the first time. After that, it was a rude wakeup call with an elbow to the ribs or several slaps to the leg :/

well tell your dad that he does not know how to ride a bike with you and say he is complete s**t ALSO SAY THAT YOU NEED TO GET IN FRONT OF HIM ON A BIKE BECAUSE IF NOT kill him.
I ride my kids almost everyday, they love it. 8 years old and up. I dont ride crazy with them and i don't take long trips with them, mostly to the grocery store or a neighborhood ride.
I found a "seatbelt" a harness that they wear and it straps around your waist incase they slip or dose off
Any tips on having a passenger that’s blind?
Thanks bro great help
I'm guessing this was recorded before FTR. RIP harley love that bike. But excited to see what you do with the new one!
Backrest are good to hold on
1:10 Omg... so glad to see there's a cop!
The thing about my son is his legs are so long, and I take him on the main road. He loves it, and I have followed every rule you've said.

Just want to say thank you for all of your advice. I have made do with a 125, if you can imagine that, for 6 years. Ece helmets are very common in Europe.
Way late to the party but damn good job on the vid, I should get a pic of 11 geared up for ya
I got two kids, I take them for short rides. I gear them up with Helmets and roller skates Knee and elbow guard. I will I get crash guard of their size. Due to Covid situation hard to get acces on those stuff. So I am thinking of DIY crush guards for them
My 9 year old rides with me all the time. She has a helmet, jacket, and gloves, like me.
Dude I was at bike week in myrtle beach last week and saw a no older than a 10 year old on the back of a bike with no gear on. Flying up and down the highway. Couldn’t believe it.
I'm my house the kids all want to ride with daddy. So have set an age and training we do years leading up to. I have a harness system and LS2 sells child helmets. Some motorcycle training programs even have them for parent and children.
Technical my 4 Yr old son loves being on the motorbike. He only rides as an atgat situation, but I have to pick him up from school, and I've put him in gear better than what I'd get myself.
There is not problem to put kids in your bike. Keep in mind that there are kids riding since they are 7 and 7 year old. It is all about be responsible and do it right, nothing else, Nothing more
My toddler wants to go on the Harley, but he's only 3. He has a helmet and I got a Kid Karrier harness that straps him to the front of me because he's obviously too small to reach passenger pegs on the back. I'm in a rural area east of Tucson where traffic is light to nonexistent. I still wouldn't take him out on the roadways, only around the neighborhood and at very low speed.
Nice dan
I want to get a bike and I would like my daughter to ride to but I think a side car attachment is the way to go seems safer
Man hate to put a kid in a DOT helmet, that's wild there's not more Snell kids helmets!
Gear is super hard to find. I just got little dude a helmet and some pretty good shoes. He'll be going with jeans and I think I found a source for a leather jacket. As for textile though I can't find anything
I've been on a bike since before I could walk that's the only way I would go to sleep is on the back of my dad's bike I've been riding since I was two years old.
Herein the US it’s still so hard to find a kids jacket but they are so easy to find in Europe
Luckily I can drive on residental roads to get to my kids school. I'm going to teach her soon until I feel comfortable to take her on the street.
"You never know with kids if they're going to like it"... how about: "You'll have to use this, or else you won't ride with me"?

my boyfriends 3 year old whos as tall as the neighbors 5 year old hates anything on her head even hats she wants to ride like the big kids but she knows she will have to wear a full face helmet if she does
Idaho law passenger should be able to reach the pegs. Key word here is should. They don't have to, its just recommended.
A bit late here, but mtr s-12 kids has ece22.05
My daughters have been riding with me for the past 11 years. Now they are too big to go riding with daddy. They both have full face snell rated HJC and Harley helmets made by HJC. My youngest we were scared she would fall asleep. So I would give high fives to her from time to time. Touch her knee and talk to her. She had to hold on to me.
Arai japan and shoe japan make child specific road helmets that meet local racing standards.
Speak for yourself. My motto guzzi has 2 twins sticking out the sides with rubber heat sheilds. Work great. And he can push into me. Couldn't be better.
Where can i find the riding gear for my 3 year old?

Don't have a kid. Did have a feist that would beat me to the bike when I picked up my helmet.
By the thumbnail i would say that kids NEED to ride on the front.

Hello from Germany, i have two sons, both 4 years old. I own a 2019 Road Glide Special an a old 1960 Ural Sidecar. The boys have been riding in the sidecar since they were 2 years old. I made a custom seat in the sidecar, with two sets of 5-point harnesses side by side , so both boys can go for a ride with me at the same time. They love it. they are very hard to get out of the sidecar once their in. And , yes, they fall asleep regularly in the sidecar. When they are about 6 or 7, i will take them on the back of the harley.

Correction All viewers in no motocycle manual does it state that pilions are children friendly I quote adult seat (pilion) dont put kids on the bike period
🐈👈🏿
High risk activity. I vote no. If you vote yes for kids on pillion, you may, but I will consider you irresponsible. You will not care what I think. If a kid on pillion gets injured or killed in a collision while you are operating I trust you will be devastated. I will not sympathize. There are persons out there that have so suffered. Ask them.
I dont think it's worth bringing your child on your bike. If they were a little older like 13 then that's okay.
DO NOT GET A CHILD ON A BIKE. If the child got permanently hurt you would NEVER forgive yourself. When he /she is of age to get a small bike get one to get them used to riding.
