Most of people here don’t get the point. That was first game after WC 2006 when Ronaldo came back to England to play and we all know what happened on England - Portugal quarter final game. Every time he touch the ball he is booed. No secret is that also Man united fans booed him. First couple games he was hated but quickly ppl forgot about it. Same thing happened after Euro 2000 final against Italy - France when Trezeguet came to Juventus..... all the rest is history. Back then football meant not only money but dedication

I have seen many matches with Ronaldo playing great football during his Manchester United days. When you look at them today you can feel great satisfaction that he got his revenge on the English spectators on away grounds who were incredibly enough constantly booing at his amazing football skills. What is even more frustrating and disgraceful for the English referees at the time is their total lack of protection for this football artist from the English football thugs. There is a match between Leeds and Man U which made me so upset about the state of the game. The match was referred by Graham Poll. booing

In that match referee Poll did absolutely norhing against the blatantly constant fouling against Ronaldo. Clearcut penalties were ignored and players like the vicious David Batty of Leeds ( and even England) was allowed by Poll to continue his dirty wkork throughout the match without being cautioned or sent off. It is fortunate that the match can be seen again and again on KZread so that true fans of football can make their own judgement of the appalling incidents during this match. Lars-Åke Hansson Sweden

In fairness it would have been easy for him to disappear, to not show for the ball. To go hunting for it and play with this intensity with all the stick he was getting is impressive. Still unforgettable what he did at the WC, though
