The coach who gave Ronaldo the right treatment when nobody would. Amazing coach who looks after his players. Bruno and cancelo were great but no matter what they would do , they could not get the cross right. There was the perfect chance for cancelo to pass Ronaldo who was free but instead of thinking for the team , they go with their inside grudge because of which the so called golden generation of Portugal isn’t much golden. 2016 Portugal played like a team instead of thinking of doing everything by themselves. The winger who was very effective in dismantling French defense was really good and I really hoped he would make a good pass inside but he too was trying to score himself. It’s not the manager who is wasting the golden generation , it’s the player themselves who are fighting with each other and trying to back their stupid decisions. People criticising ronaldo don’t surprised me much either because they have been doing it for past 20 years and are only a joke in their own life. Bruno Fernandes messed up so many corners and free kicks I can count. I was waiting for that one perfect cross which never came for Portugal skipper except one which was quite unlucky for Sir Ronaldo .

Ronaldo should have been subbed in from 70th minute and everyone spam passes to CR7 in the box for a goal. Keeping him on for the full 120mins was a complete waste, it felt as though Portugal were a 10 man team v 11 frenchies. Sad to say, CR7 had zero impact

Martinez is not really answering anything directly. I don't see any accountability for the poor decisions he made. He goes on about personality and team spirit. And yes, they are important, but they only take you so far. In the end is about utilising the talent you have at your display in the most effective manner. He did not do that with either Belgium or Portugal. With Portugal, he insisted on using players who were clearly not performing to justify his choices, waiting for that golden moment that never came. He says that Portugal should be proud. Proud of what? Of reaching the quarter finals and losing against one of the weakest French sides we've seen. Pride is what we felt when we watched our team beat a French squad with the likes of Pogba, Griezmann, Giroud on their own soil; in a final when all the odds were against us. Pride was when we saw Nani, Quaresma, Renato Stanches, Pepe, Rui Patricio, playing the game of their lives. Yesterday, we felt no pride, all we were left with was exasperation and the feeling of Déjà vu , as we were watching once more, immense talent being wasted under a mediocre coach.

I should have mentioned two players there; Raphaël Guerreiro who made some superb saves in that final and of course Éder, who silenced the French fans with that long and unexpected strike. Looking at this team, I see similar skill; but I doubt they will achieve much under this coach. This is one of those that I want to be wrong about, but I haven't seen nothing from Martinez that shows me that he can get the best out of our players.

He dictates how the attack operates. They can only play one way with him. He restricts the options to play a different way. The quality of delivery from wide areas was poor and you play against high level defences when you attack centrally. The result is no goals. It speaks for itself. A striker who is more mobile and not just standing centrally could allow the other players to be better. He's still a great finisher but he has no pace, his elite level touch is going and he's not as clinical any more. Great player.. an all time great but he's almost 40, It's over at international level. Qualifying against bad teams he will score. Tournament level he's done. If he cared about his team mates he would move aside and allow them to build something without him. He should have done that after the last world cup but he doesn't because in his head he still thinks he's the player he was ten years ago.

@@Dominator6754 there are a lot of great Portuguese coaches: Abel Ferreira of Palmeiras 2 time Brazilian champion 2 time copa libertadores champion among another 8 trophies in 4 years. He has expressed his desire to leave Brazil over the past year because he won every trophy in South America Sergio Conceição with 12 trophies in charge of Porto now he is out of a job. I like his no bullshit attitude and his man management ability. Not to mention he was a great player and I have to take that experience into account There’s a lot more but this list would be to long. Portugal is blessed to have a lot of great football brains at all levels from the youth teams to the A teams. If the national team calls most managers wouldn’t turn down the call. It would be a easy replacement if the federation does decide to sack Martinez. But I highly doubt that due to the incompetence in the federation to begin with. So I’m really looking forward to the elections in October we need a change of hierarchy.

Portugal came to pass the ball around but crucial passes in the final third were lacking; they were either underhit or overhit. Some passes never made it into the box, and even when moving the ball quicker was a better option they slowed it down. Ronaldo, even if he may not have the legs to run 120mins, still has the ball sense to make the most of created chances. So the question to the people talking and criticising one man, apparently because of the standard he set as a forward is as a striker for portugal how many chances were created by portugal throughout the competition, how many passes did ronaldo receive from his team mates when he was in the box?
