Base-editing technology is a new generation of gene-editing tools that allow the precise editing of single-point mutations without generating double-stranded DNA breaks as CRISPR-Cas9 does. Base editing overcomes several limitations of CRISPR/Cas9 and offers a new way to reverse disease-causing mutations and potentially cure thousands of genetic diseases. Base editing, which was built upon CRISPR/Cas9, has been dubbed as ‘CRISPR2.0’. In this video, we are going to learn about David Liu, the inventor of base editing, and the company he co-founded, BEAM therapeutics (BEAM).
