Criminally Overlooked Games 5

Ойындар

Episode 365 - Sometimes games just don't get the love and attention that they deserve, usually because they're not big names like Mario, Sonic, Zelda, Metroid, Pokemon, Pokémon, Roblox, Minecraft, or others I should probably put in this description to theoretically improve this video's reach. Anyway let's look at some more games that people should talk about at least a little bit more than they do.

Funny you mention that, I was actually thinking Genji (the first game on PS2 not its sequel the meme'd to death PS3 launch game) should be featured in this video too. It's a beautiful game with nice combat similar Onimusha but with jump button. The only negative is that the game is way too short. Thanks to that crab meme, Genji will be forever associated with PS3 launch woes and the original game in PS2 forgotten.

Beyond Oasis is a great game. Collecting hearts buffs your health, collecting gems buffs your mana. You can use breakable weapons of different power, but there are also ways to get infinite powerful weapons if you pass a challenge. Maze-like dungeons, puzzle-like bosses. Some hidden mechanics like summoning spirits from enemies and inventory items. Very nice animations. One of my favourites. Happy to see it mentioned.

The ladies on the back of the Virtua Racing Deluxe box are truly "Out of this World".. as in, they look like they came from that game. 😅 Seriously the best thing about the Japanese release is the inclusion of SRAM so you can save your lap/track times and also keep mirror mode unlocked when you beat all the stages. Sega was insane removing this feature from the USA version, after having folks pay a $150 premium for the half-assed 32X addon and the high game prices on top of that.

So glad you mentioned Skyblazer, as it really doesn't get enough love! Though I think it's funny how you mentioned the game being difficult in spots and often frustrating, as I found it to be quite possibly the easiest 2D platformer I've ever played -- I rented it from BlockBuster back in the day, and literally beat the whole game on my first sitting. But I liked it enough that I went out and bought it afterward, so I could replay it again and again! Definitely didn't find any part of the game even the slightest bit challenging, though, nor was I ever frustrated for even a moment. If anything, it was kind of a relaxing game to play, since I could almost just zone out and beat the whole thing without even paying attention to it. I also think it's funny that you mention hating the stage with the wind currents, as that's -- again -- quite possibly one of my favorite stages in any 2D platformer, ever. I LOVE that there's not a single piece of solid ground in the entire stage, and you just have to ride wind currents to get to the exit -- it feels so freeing and fun, and is such a cool change of pace from other platformer games of the time!

Another overlooked game worth mentioning is Nascar Rumble on the PS1.Developed by the same people who made Dead Space series. It's essentially a Mario Kart clone.....but better. The powerups are much more tolerable and not unfair towards you, an issue that is well known in the Mario kart games. In Rumble, if you slow down your car, then you can dodge all of the projectiles being thrown at you whereas in Mario Kart, you get hit by pretty much everything such as blue shell, green shell, boo etc. Afaik, there's no such thing as rubber banding in Rumble so you will have to be good to win the race. You don't see this in Mario Kart. They even have Jess Harnell, the voice actor for later Crash Bandicoot and Spyro games to record some lines in this game. Also, Derek Trucks the famous guitarist almost composed some soundtracks for the game. Whether you are Nascar fans or not, you will love this game.

It's fun to see Skyblazer mentioned. Before we named ourselves the incredibly silly "Moron Police" we used to be named Skyblazer because of that game. Our name got worse, but the music got slightly better.

As far as criminally underrated games go, I would have to suggest the Way of the Samurai games on the PS2 / PS3. They are sandbox samurai games with a "choose your own adventure" twist with mild rogue like elements. I will admit when you first start playing you will likely feel lost as you are just kind of thrown in, and the controls are a little clunky, but after getting accustomed to it there is a lot of enjoyment to be had. Each run is relatively short, and even if you die and lose your stuff you are still gaining points to unlock cosmetics and game modes which keeps the momentum going. Highly recommend.

Another great episode. Thank you. One game I think deserves more love is Jurrasic Park on the Sega CD. It is one of my favorite point-and-click games and the production values are pretty impressive.

Deeper in the game, with access to all moves, weapons and spirits, Legend of Oasis for the Saturn is something really special, like Beyond Oasis before it, the only thing it needed was a sequel later in the Saturn's life so it could turn into an amazing trilogy. In fact, all overhead SEGA games from Golvellius onwards are great games. I like how you can combo while dashing with Guy in Final Fight 3, it's also possible to moonwalk and double tap < while holding R to dodge attacks too, it's indeed a great game for the SNES, nice soundtrack but no much variety, and letterboxed like all Capcom games on the console, indeed the best FF game for me.

I like to bring up Biker Mice From Mars on Snes when appropriate. It has a Rocking Soundtrack, and it shows the people who made it really cared to make it a great racing game. Also Vinny in that game with spinning around corners and using powerups can really go fast.

Joe, I've been following your channel for years now, never fails to entertain me Next episode of underrated games, I'd love if you'd bring up Threads of Fate from PS1. It's a Square Action RPG game that I only found out about last year. It plays almost like Dragon Valor, has two stories and an extremely funny plot with loads of gags. It's a beautiful game that no one talks about, you really should give it a look

Jurassic Park for the Sega Master System. Really solid amd overlooked platformer. Mcdonald's Treasureland Adventure on the Sega Genesis is also realllllly good, especially the music. The first game made by Treasure of Gunstar Heroes Fame

Great work. Another overlooked game not a lot talk about is Adventure of Little Ralph for PS1. Maybe this channel has talked about it, I wouldn’t be surprised. Very fun game. Hard but addicting. You keep wanting to retry until you beat the level. Only takes a few hours to beat but worth the afternoon trying it and replaying it every year.

Kokuga on the 3DS is a digital-only, killer, stealth-based, tank action game that I don't think anyone else seems to even think exists. So good, but keep the 3D slider at about 1/3.
